One The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered player managed to lock themselves out of the main story quest by following a certain sequence of events. The remaster of the classic fantasy RPG follows the main character as they make their way through Cyrodiil. The central story is an engaging tale of political unrest, but there are also plenty of side quests for players to get distracted by.
Reddit Different-Ticket2974 was following one such side quest when they realized that they could no longer continue the main quest. They describe reaching a certain point in the story, then heading on a side mission to complete Arena and Guild quests. The player asked a crucial character to wait in a room along the way, only to have the room and the entire building it was found to be destroyed later in the story. This has caused the game to glitch, unable to find the missing characters, and rendering the player unable to move forward with the main storyline.

Leaving NPCs In The Wrong Place Glitched Them Out Of The Game
This section contains some spoilers for the main Oblivion Remastered storyline, so if you'd rather not see them, please skip ahead to the next heading!
The Redditor's issues started when they reached the point in the story where they, accompanied by Martin and Jauffre, must journey to the Cloud Ruler Temple. The player continued to complete side quests accompanied by the two characters, which caused problems during the Burma Recommendation quest. The Redditor writes, "every time I’d sneak into the room to steal the book of spells, Martin and Jauffre would rat me out for stealing," so they told the NPCs to wait for them in one of the rooms in the Burma Mages guild.
The player then continued on their journey without the two characters, knowing that they could return to them at any point to progress the main story. Unfortunately, the game had other plans. Later in the game, the Burma guild and the building it's housed in get destroyed, "and now Martin and Jauffre are glitched out of the game." The Redditor plans to create a new character just to complete the main story, with this lesson learned: "classic Oblivion, don’t ever tell Martin to wait anywhere."
Bethesda Is Working With The Community To Address
Ironing The Bugs, One Player At A Time
The issue that this Redditor had is so specific that it probably won't get caught in the general bug fixes issued by Bethesda. However, the studio has been listening to fans closely since the release of Oblivion Remastered, actively seeking and responding to player and concerns.

"Exceptional": Oblivion Remastered Mod Fixes Players' Main Issues With Combat AI
A new The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered mod aims to improve the game's combat to feel more responsive, making each fight carry more weight.
This means that bug fixes are slowly but steadily being rolled out, but it also makes it likely that even less frequent errors like this one may get fixed, as well. The Bethesda team has been hard at work ensuring that The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion Remastered is the best modernized classic experience that it can be. Until then, players can use this Redditor's experience as a cautionary tale and avoid making the same mistake in their own playthroughs.
