The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered has no shortage of great quests, but not every task on offer throughout the game is equal, and a lot of fans are in agreement that one in particular doesn't hold up. While the best side content in Oblivion Remastered focuses on memorable characters or reveals interesting corners of the world, the worst tends to be tedious fetch quest material. There's no shortage of things to collect, and at a certain point, it's easy to decide that items that can't be casually collected aren't worth the grind.
Reddit VerdensTrial shared a screenshot marking their successful progress in the "Go Fish" quest, and plenty of other players chimed in with their own frustrating experiences. "Go Fish" requires the player to collect 12 Rumare Slaughterfish Scales, a task that can be extremely tedious. If it was all in the name of a great reward, it might still be easy to justify, but you aren't likely to need the prize on offer by the time you actually complete the quest.
Oblivion Remastered Fans Discuss How Terrible The "Go Fish" Quest Is
Bad Experiences Are Way Too Common
"Go Fish" is essentially as straightforward as it sounds, but it doesn't make use of a fun fishing minigame or focus on an interesting variety of fish. Instead, completing it primarily hinges on following quest markers and traipsing around a lake. Without a complex story surrounding it or any real surprises in the course of the quest, it doesn't bring much to the table. Completing the quest earns the Jewel of the Rumare, which boosts athletics and provides the Water Breathing ability, but Oblivion Remastered has plenty of other rings that will prove more useful.

There’s One Oblivion Remastered Material You’ll Absolutely Regret Selling
Oblivion Remastered has plenty of materials you can routinely offload, but one in particular is way more valuable if you don't toss it aside casually.
VerdensTrial expressed this particular sentiment with a caption noting that they didn't even need the ring anymore, but their annoyance seems minimal compared to some of the comments. Vitschmalz explains the nearly nonsensical mechanics behind the fish spawning — including the need to "look in the same places multiple times" — information that some other commenters clearly needed. The most intense anger might come from deadhead_santa, who shares that they actually killed the quest-giver as revenge for getting stuck on the quest.
Why "Go Fish" Is Such A Troublesome Quest You Can Skip
A Thoroughly Unrewarding Venture
The way Oblivion Remastered spawns the fish for "Go Fish" is ultimately the key problem, and it can frequently result in fish flopping around on shore rather than actually swimming in the designated lake. A bit of bugginess isn't anything out of the ordinary for Oblivion Remastered, but it's rare for the game's janky issues to completely devalue the fun of a quest, which can definitely happen in "Go Fish."
As for the ring, it's far from the only item that can provide a water-breathing ability or bump up your athletics score in the game. Water breathing is hardly the most useful ability to begin with, and if you ever did need it, it would probably be in the course of completing "Go Fish" rather than in any task afterward. If you start "Go Fish" and quickly find yourself bored, there's no shame in leaving this particular quest behind to focus on The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered's finer offerings.
