Holly Flax isn't a main character in The Office, but she does play the extremely vital role of being Michael Scott's main love interest. She comes into the series at the end of season 4 to replace Toby as the Human Resources representative in the Scranton branch of Dunder Mifflin.

Michael ends up falling for Holly pretty quickly as the two seem utterly perfect for one another and share very similar kinds of humor. Holly comes in and out of the show in seasons five, six, and seven but always remains Michael's main focus and romantic interest, even when he thinks he has lost her. Holly ultimately comes back and she and Michael kick off a totally sweet relationship with one another and depart the series together in order to move to Colorado. In the series finale, Michael mentions that he and Holly are happily married and have started their family together.

Her Real Name Is Hollis

Holly Flax The Office

It turns out that Holly is just a nickname for Michael Scott's true love. Her real name is Hollis, which is a pretty unique name, and is even more unique when fans take her middle name into as well, which is Partridge. Hollis Partridge Flax is a pretty complex name so it makes sense why she simply went by Holly throughout the show. Her name, Holly and Partridge, are also strangely reminiscent of Christmas.

Diagnosed With Mono In High School

Michael Holly

Holly one time announced that during her high school years, she actually was diagnosed with mono and was made fun of for it pretty bad. When she reveals this, Michael realizes that Holly also got bullied a lot for her strange antics, much like he did when he was young. Michael has mentioned more than a few times that a lot of people bullied him, for anything and everything. Holly's high school mono was one more reason Michael fell in love with her.

Was The Hall Monitor

When Holly was in middle school, she said she held the position of being the hall monitor and was asked to do so due to her geeky appearance and personality. Once again, because of this, she was teased and picked on by the other kids at school, they would stuff egg salad into her locker.

It makes sense that after being hall monitor, Holly would go on to work for HR, there is a starking resemblance to the two positions and it also shows how the HR department has been teased and picked on throughout the series (as other office have teased her, save for Michael).

From Iowa

Michael and Holly in The Office

Holly is from Des Moines, Iowa originally. When he and Michael briefly discuss it on their lunch "date" to talk about Meredith Palmer soliciting her body for cheap paper supplies, Michael just seems like he wants to get to know his friend better. He brings of Des Moines and says "it sounds warm." But its Iowa, so Holly simply laughs and agrees only in the summer. The conversation derails from there as Michael then asks her what her favorite season is.

Feelings Sparked By Toby

Holly Michael

Initially, Michael hated Holly due to the sole reason that she was another Human Resources representative going to the Scranton branch to replace Toby as he went to Costa Rica. However, Holly quickly changes Michael's mind about her when she first ends up making fun of Toby as well, joking that he is incredibly dull. Michael's figurative heart eyes only expand for the HP rep when she mimics a Yoda voice in response to one of his jokes.

Likes Yoga

Holly mentions yoga a lot throughout her time in the series. She likes to be fit, and remains healthy by doing yoga pretty frequently, which she proves in the season five two-part episode, "Weight Loss." Once Oscar finds out of Holly's interest, he refers her to a local yoga class that has a pretty attractive teacher, who later asks Holly on a date before standing her up. Holly also mentions that she can teach some yoga lessons for the fundraiser she and Michael set up after the break-in to the office.

Had Four Children

Though it is never mentioned in the series, Michael's return in the series finale confirms that he and Holly have started a family with one another in Colorado. He shows Pam a bunch of pictures on his phone of his children, saying that he actually has two phones to store them all.

The series never confirmed how many kids he and Holly had, but they both wanted pretty big families. Later, NBC made a statement that Michael and Holly actually had four kids with one another.

Father Has Dementia

Holly eventually ends up leaving the series due to her parents not doing so well and living on their own in Colorado. This is what sparked Michael's departure from the series as well, and what ultimately changed the dynamic of The Office to continue on without the main character. Holly's father had dementia and it became increasingly difficult for his mother to care for him on her own. Holly, at first, didn't want to go because she didn't want to leave Michael, but she knew she had. That was when Michael proposed and announced he would go as well.

Made Michael Better

Through all of Michael's wild antics, somehow Todd Packer came back into the series during season 7, he was just completely and utterly awful, like he normally is. So Jim and Dwight decided to get him out of there by faking a promotion in Florida. Michael was against the rouse and sided with Packer a number of times throughout the episode, even when Holly seemed incredibly uncomfortable about his remarks. It wasn't until Packer decided to make fun of Holly that Michael said enough was enough. He let Packer go to Florida without telling him it was fake.

 Three Date Rule

Holly from The Office shows off her ring fingers.

Holly is pretty much the mirror image of Michael in almost every way, save for the fact that Holly has a tiny bit more common sense and definitely a filter. However, Michael and Holly seem to share in the same sentiment of the "Three Date Rule." Michael believes that the third date is typically when the starting couple will start to get a bit more intimate with one another. And as they plan their third date, Michael asks Holly if they will be having sex later that night, to which she responds, "Hell yeah," while laughing, showing that she once again is on the same wavelength as Michael.
