A recent teaser has questioned whether One Piece Season 2 will meet its rumored 2025 release date. After its premiere in the summer of 2023, viewers have been eagerly waiting for the official news about when the sequel would drop, so when its trailer that revealed the start of production was released almost a year after the first installment, One Piece fans were delighted that there was less time before knowing when the series was meant to come out. However, One Piece Live Action might come later than fans were hoping for.

Recent reports following the announcement of the One Piece Lego Collection indicated a possible release date for the live-action sequel in late 2025. However, this has just been debunked by a new trailer where One Piece Season 2's absence was evident.

The streaming platform has just what's next on Netflix for 2025, teasing through little Easter eggs the list of the biggest projects that are set to premiere in the months. Unfortunately, One Piece Season 2 was not confirmed despite the recent reports of the series arriving this year, which confirms that fans should expect the series to release later in 2026.

Alongside One Piece Season 2, other big absents in the releases for 2025 are other long-awaited live-action sequels, All of Us Are Dead Season 2, and Avatar: The Last Airbender Season 2. This way, the fact that all of them are series that require a lot of production time because of their high amount of CGI sequences and big action scenes highlights that it is only natural that One Piece Season 2 will need a faraway release to deliver a satisfying adaptation.

Moreover, given all the big releases of 2025, like Squid Game Season 3, Stranger Things Season 5, Wednesday Season 2, and Alice in Borderland Season 3, Netflix could be intending for One Piece Season 2 to be the most awaited series for next year instead of releasing all their biggest titles together.

One Piece Season 2 Might Need a Longer Production Time

A Delayed Release Could Prove To Be a Good Thing for the Series

As disappointing as this news is for fans of the franchise, especially after all the recent promotions for the series, this could be for the best to warrant the quality of the arcs in One Piece Season 2. Starting from Reverse Mountain to Little Garden, these arcs elevate the scale of what was seen in the first installment. Likewise, the Drum Island Arc and Arabasta Arc present many intense battles.

Moreover, One Piece Season 2 indirectly confirmed that Chopper will be done entirely by CGI, which hints that Karoo will too. This proves that this installment will require a bigger amount of time for production than the one needed for the first season. One need only look at how Stranger Things Season 2 is considered the worst of the franchise to understand why trying to hurry at meet an early deadline can hurt a series. Hopefully, One Piece Season 2 can advance swiftly through its production without an impeding release and be ready to go in 2026.

Netflix Could Have Saved the Release Date for a Bigger Impact

Nevertheless, there is always the possibility of Netflix deciding to save the revelation of One Piece Season 2 release date for a bigger event, as the announcement projects in What's Next on Netflix for the year aren’t always absolute, as seen with shows that weren’t included and still premiered last year, like Virgin River Season 6 and Lincoln Lawyer Season 3.

Created by Eiichiro Oda, One Piece is a multimedia franchise that began as a manga series and follows the adventures of the Straw Hat Pirates as led by Monkey D. Luffy. Luffy, an enthusiastic pirate with a thirst for adventure, is afflicted by a mysterious curse that gives him various powers he uses to protect himself and his friends. The manga eventually gave way to the anime series, with the two being some of history's longest-running anime and manga series. Along with over fifty video games made over the years, the series entered the live-action world with Netflix's 2023 adaptation.
