Blood of My Blood is the prequel to Outlander, and the spinoff looks primed to continue the legacy of its parent show with more unique storytelling and authentic romance. Outlander has become a TV juggernaut since its debut, chronicling the romantic relationship between Jamie and Claire after the latter is sent back in time to Scotland in the 18th century. The prequel series, Outlander: Blood of My Blood, will replace the main show after it bows out, following the parents of Claire and Jamie as their love stories unfold in their respective time periods.

Outlander is based on the novels by Diana Gabaldon, but with the series ending after its eighth season, it's clear that the franchise needed something more. Blood of My Blood is designed to fill that void, and speaks to the endless possibilities of the Outlander universe. The time travel aspects alone opens the door for limitless storylines, but the gripping family legacies created by Gabaldon in her novels, and the epic romances that go along with them, are prime fodder for prequels, sequels, and other spinoffs. After a lengthy development period, Blood of My Blood will finally arrive in 2025.

The Romantic Prequel Is Set For August

The announcement of Outlander: Blood of My Blood came early in 2023 when it was also announced that Outlander’s eighth season would conclude the narrative and end the show. Since then, the series went into production in early 2024 and eventually wrapped in July. There was little news concerning the spinoff until early 2025 when it was announced that Blood of My Blood would premiere on Friday, August 8, 2025, at 8pm EST. The debut season will consist of 10 episodes and will air every Friday at the same time.

It's unclear how this release will impact the arrival of Outlander season 8, but with filming on the series concluded in September 2024, it could come at any moment. It's very likely that Blood of My Blood will arrive first, and the eighth and final season of Outlander will follow. Though the shows' narratives don't clash, it would behoove Starz not to schedule the two programs too closely together.

Outlander season 7 part 2 concluded on January 17, 2025.
