A massive hint about Outlander's ending could spell trouble for the season 8. Though book fans have typically known what is to come in the Outlander TV show, season 8 is a different story. Author Diana Gabaldon has yet to finish the final book in her romantacy series, so essentially anything could happen in the coming episodes. Of course, the books and existing seasons may provide some hints about how Claire and Jamie's story could come to a close. That's not all, however, since actor Caitriona Balfe's season 8 wig may provide an additional clue about what is to come.

Back when filming for posted a video on Instagram of her having her wig removed for the last time. It was an emotional moment for the actor, and touching for us to see how much this character and the Outlander series have meant to her. However, it's interesting to note that the wig removed in Balfe's video is significantly grayer than the one she wore in season 7. Though it's a small detail, Claire's grey hair is a uniquely significant hint about what is to come in Outlander season 8.

Claire's Outlander Costume Hints At A Time Jump In Season 8

A Time Jump Is A Lot To Squeeze Into Outlander's Final Season

Claire's hair has gradually gotten greyer throughout Outlander, which makes sense considering it has been over two decades since (in-world) her story began. Still, the wig we see Balfe removing in her Instagram video is almost completely grey, indicating that the ending of season 8 will be set long after the events of season 7. Surely this means we can expect a time jump in the coming episodes, but other details throughout Outlander hint that this will be more than a quick epilogue scene set in the distant future.

The color of Claire's hair is significant to the story in Outlander, since it was once prophesied that she would come into her full power once all her hair turned white. It was revealed back in La Dame Blanche.

The only problem with this is that Outlander has really run out of time to do this story justice.

Balfe's final wig suggests that we will see this story unfold in Outlander season 8, which is certainly exciting. The TV show version of this story has largely ignored Claire's magical abilities, but with the return of Master Raymond and the significant change in Claire's hair color for season 8, it seems that this is about to change. The only problem with this is that Outlander has really run out of time to do this story justice.

Outlander Season 8 Could Continue The Series' Pacing Issues

It's Never Been Easy For Outlander To Fit Everything In

Outlander's-Newest-Book-Title-Makes-The-TV-Show's-Biggest-Ending-Problem-Even-Worse-

There will only be 10 episodes in Outlander season 8, which is significantly fewer than pre-COVID-19 seasons used to contain. This really isn't a lot of time to give Jamie and Claire a satisfying ending. There are still some significant book events left to adapt, and then it will be up to Starz to come up with its own resolution. We still need answers about Brianna's destiny as the 200-year-old baby and Jamie's astral projection powers, not to mention the new story about Faith Fraser's survival. This is a whole lot to pack into only 10 episodes, and a time jump will make it all seem even more rushed.

I'll Be So Disappointed If Outlander Season 8 Uses THIS Detail To Explain Away Jamie's 34-Year-Long Mystery

I'm eager to hear Outlander season 8's answer for a long-standing Jamie Fraser mystery, but I'm terrified that THIS is how it will be explained away.

Any TV show is going to have a more condensed timeline than its book counterpart, but Outlander has been especially criticised for this. It would have been nice to see season 8 take things slow and steady, but it doesn't look like that's going to happen in the coming episodes. Unfortunately, the Starz series may have no other choice but to commit to its ongoing pacing issue trend. Though we may finish off Outlander feeling rather rushed, it should at least make for a lot of excitement.
