Many Overwatch 2 characters received makeovers from the original game, but a fresh outfit, a new hairdo, and an updated mech weren’t D.Va’s only changes - this beloved Tank has gone from slightly cheeky to plain toxic. Although it’s nothing but harmless banter, her new personality has made quite the first impression on Overwatch 2’s player base. She has quickly skyrocketed to meme status in the community, becoming a fan-favorite among both new and experienced players alike.
D.Va is currently one of the game’s most powerful Tanks. Many players were skeptical about her transition from off-Tank to main Tank with Overwatch 2’s new 5v5 format, but she seems to have adjusted smoothly. Being one of the most popular Tank picks in the game so far, D.Va players have been enjoying her buffed Defense Matrix, the reduced cooldown on her Boosters, and her spread reduction, which resulted in an increase in overall damage output.
Thus, many Overwatch 2 players would agree that she’s one of the game’s strongest heroes at the moment - but it seems like D.Va knows it, too. Her in-game personality is nothing short of sassy and borderline arrogant. Whether it’s a pre-game conversation with a teammate, or a post-kill quip to an enemy, D.Va never fails to criticize the players in her match, all while sticking to her typical gaming jargon.
D.Va’s Voice Lines Directly Attack Players In Overwatch 2
Canonically being a game hobbyist, D.Va’s voice lines have always reflected that aspect of her personality. For example, one of D.Va's best abilities in Overwatch 2, her ultimate Self Destruct, is announced by yelling, "Nerf this." Throughout both games, she has constantly bordered on breaking the fourth wall in this comedic way - but in Overwatch 2, D.Va has taken it to a whole new level, with some of her elimination voice lines being surprisingly flippant. Perhaps regarded as one of her funniest lines, she can taunt the enemy after eliminating them by saying, “Wow, cringe,” in a fittingly condescending tone. Some other voice lines include, “It’s a skill issue,” “Enjoy that killcam,” “Now they’re just feeding,” and “Outplayed.” Compared to the other heroes - even to her personality in the previous game - D.Va’s kill quips are remarkably disrespectful. They almost seem like a dig at players themselves, rather than the heroes.
D.Va doesn’t spare her teammates from her toxic jokes, either. For example, when on the same team, there’s a chance that she will tell Sombra, "I'll stomp you even with your hacks." If Overwatch 2's Damage character Reaper is on her team, she’ll jeer at him unprovoked, saying, “You don’t look so good. Maybe you should sit this one out and leave the kills to me.” Similarly, in a conversation with an ally Widowmaker, she’ll make fun of the sniper’s playstyle, claiming, “You’re hiding so far in the backline, I can barely hear you.”
Whether a player is playing with or against a D.Va, avoiding her smug voice lines is no easy task, with many seemingly attacking both the in-game hero and the player behind the screen. But it seems, so far, this has actually made her one of the game’s more beloved personalities. Although D.Va is rumored to get a nerf in the near future, it’s doubtful that it will stop her from being a fan favorite - or continuing to be playfully toxic in Overwatch 2.
