The new Elderwood expansion to Palia adds several new features alongside the massive new map to explore. As part of the main quest, various potions will become available from the mysterious Majiri potion-maker Tamala, each of which will aid you in the dangerous Elderwood. However, each potion will need a quest completed before Tamala will sell them, with the Hearth Potion requiring some very specific ingredients.

Potions are just one of the new mechanics introduced in the expansion which, along with relics, offer temporary boosts to help with the strange new wildlife in the area. Tamala's potion shop can be found in the Central Stables in Palia's new Elderwood zone, where she will sell potions and runestones, alongside pumpkin seeds and sacred flowers. The potion shop is very easy to find, especially after getting your own stable, with all of the items costing Infected Essence instead of gold.

How To Start The Quest Where The Hearth Is

Tamala Wants To Make Amends For Trapping You

Where The Hearth Is Quest in player journal in Palia

The quest “Where the Hearth Is” follows the previous main storyline quest, in which Tamala trapped you in a cave as a punishment for following her. After rescuing Ulfe and speaking with Subira, the main questline pauses, but if you spot Tamala out in the world, she will have a quest marker. When speaking with her, she will express some regret for her actions and has thought of a way to apologize to you.

Tamala will explain that she can make a potion that will teleport you to your home lot instantly. However, just as with Tamala's previous Elderwood potion, she needs the initial ingredients gathered for her. The Hearth Potion is a convenient way to quickly return to your home plot when the usual return available via the map is on cooldown.

Tamala's Teleporting Potion Needs Four Ingredients

Star Quality Ingredients Are Often Hard To Find

The Hearth Potion needs only four ingredients, but three of these need to be star quality. This makes them rare drops from otherwise common or plentiful sources, and usually means that how quickly a request or quest can be completed will depend on the drop rate and luck. For her new teleportation potion, Tamala will need 300 Infected Essence, one star quality Ogopuu Scale, one star quality Blushing Batterfly, and one piece of star quality Elder Clam Mushroom Meat.

Where To Find Infected Essence

The easiest potion ingredient to gather is the Infected Essence, which can be found all over once you get to the Elderwood. This can either be collected from individual pieces, which look like floating orbs of purple energy, or from infected flora and fauna. It is easier to gather Infected Essence from gathering materials in the Elderwood, meaning you will need plenty of Elderwood Potions or a Bag of Illusion relic.

300 is a lot of Infected Essence to gather and will take time; however, with just the lowest tier Bag of Illusion, infected plants and trees can be gathered from. These will yield the best results as well as provide new materials to craft with. Otherwise, Elderwood Potions can be purchased from Tamala’s shop for 15 Infected Essence each.

Where To Find Starred Elder Clam Mushroom Meat

The star quality Elder Clam Mushroom Meat is also relatively easy to collect, although it may take many mushrooms before one of the right quality drops. Elder Clam Mushrooms can be found all over the Okanaa Bog region of the Elderwood and look like light pink mushrooms with a green tint on the top. These are a plentiful resource and generally respawn in the Bog quickly, allowing for many of them to be gathered.

To perform secondary actions on an item, such as opening a bag, sticker pack, or oyster, you will need to right-click if you are using a PC or X for Switch.

To get the meat from inside the Elder Clam Mushroom, you will need to open your inventory and open the mushroom in the same way you would an oyster. This will give you Elder Clam Mushroom Meat, which can be star quality or even a Black Pearl. It took dozens of Elder Clam Mushrooms before I found a starred piece of meat, as the drop rate is approximately 10%.

Where To Find A Starred Blushing Batterfly

A Blushing Batterfly can be found in cave areas of the Elderwood and I found the most Blushing Batterflies in the Red Blossom Cave. The Blushing Batterfly is a pale pink insect that looks almost white in-game and star quality insects in Palia have a slight glow to them, which helps the starred Blushing Batterflies stand out in the dimly lit caves.

Palia: Where To Find All The Stables In The Elderwood

The new Elderwood expansion of Palia lets you explore an atmospheric new zone with five new stables to find and unlock to help make travel easier.

The Blushing Batterfly is also very quick, and darts around when spooked, making them difficult to target. I recommend using Sticky Smoke Bombs to slow them, which can be crafted using one piece of clay, one piece of fabric, and one Sweet Leaf.

Where To Find A Starred Ogopuu Scale

The most difficult ingredient to find is the star quality Ogopuu Scale, as it is a very rare drop from only the blue Ogopuu. Ogopuu are plentiful and can be found near water in Mitana Grove, the Deep Woods, and most commonly in Okanaa Bog. Ogopuu will spit a sticky substance at you when alarmed or attacked which will slow your movement, making them difficult to chase, so I highly recommend hunting for them with a friend or even a group.

20 Fine Arrows can be crafted from five pieces of Heartwood and one Iron Bar. Heartwood in Palia can be found in Bahari Bay from Pine Trees.

You will need at least level six hunting in Palia to have a Fine Bow or higher and the ability to craft Fine Arrows. These arrows will do the most damage and reduce the number of hits needed to take down each Ogopuu. Once you have gathered your ingredients, simply return to Tamala, who will reward you with a free Hearth Potion and one Red Candy Egg, which will give 250 Focus when eaten.
