Patrick Stewart's pick for his favorite TV show of all time is a three-season HBO Western series that's considered one of the genre's best. When you think of Patrick Stewart and television, you think of his role as Captain Jean-Luc Picard in Star Trek: The Next Generation and the movie and television spinoffs. Science fiction has always seemed to be his domain, with his memorable performances in the X-Men series as Professor Charles Xavier being another example of his comfort and interest in the future and the impossible.

But the knighted British actor has a career that extends far beyond those two roles. Patrick Stewart's movie career has seen him appear in historical epics, adaptations of Shakespeare and Dickens, and animated classics like The Prince of Egypt. On television, he's had a similar wide-ranging career, voicing characters in Family Guy and playing a Roman in the historical TV show, I, Claudius. Stewart can't be ascribed to just one genre, so with that in mind, maybe it's not a surprise to hear what Stewart's favorite TV show of all time is.

Star Trek: Picard ended with a very heartwarming scene, but the show's star pitched an alternate idea that was taken on board and then rejected.

A few years after the interview, Deadwood: The Movie premiered on HBO in 2019, wrapping up the lingering storylines from the series. No one was likely happier than Patrick Stewart, who probably sat right down to watch it. Stewart was asked a handful of other questions in the interview, including what was the first movie he saw in the movie theater, to which he answered, "The Monkey's Paw, which I should not have seen." When asked if he had any other jobs beyond acting, he said he worked for a local paper.

On whether it's worth it to receive training to become an actor, Stewart said he would, "Certainly recommend it." Finally, he was asked how to make the perfect cup of tea. He suggested warming up your cup, so the water stays hot, and then making sure that you have a cookie or biscuit on hand to eat with your tea. Cheers, Sir Patrick.

Deadwood Is One Of HBO's Most Important Shows And Already A Classic

The Series Is Part Of Why HBO Is The Destination For Good TV

While it may be a bit of a surprise that Patrick Stewart specifically likes Deadwood, it's not a bad choice by any means. In fact, Deadwood is probably one of the best Western shows to have ever aired. It should probably be ranked among the greatest shows ever, or at least have its ten-gallon hat thrown in the ring. The series is set in the 1870s in Deadwood, South Dakota, before and after the area was known only as the Dakota Territory. Over three seasons, audiences watched the small camp of Deadwood grow into a thriving, and dangerous, town.

The series earned eight Emmy Awards out of 28 nominations, and one Golden Globe out of two nominations.

Starring Timothy Olyphant as Seth Bullock, Ian McShane as Al Swearengen, and a host of other notable stars, Deadwood is a thrilling, expertly crafted, and honest depiction of life on the frontier, warts and all. The series earned eight Emmy Awards out of 28 nominations, and one Golden Globe out of two nominations. Deadwood came along in the early part of the HBO prestige TV boom, premiering in the middle of The Sopranos and The Wire, and just before Rome and True Blood. Deadwood helped elevate the streamer to what it is today.

It's been over two decades since the series premiere, and, by this point, Deadwood can be considered a classic. In TV , that means if you haven't seen it, then get on your horse and get it done. It's only three seasons after all. If you think Westerns aren't your taste, be like Patrick Stewart and give it a try anyway. You may just surprise yourself.
