Warning! Spoilers ahead for Peacemaker episode 5
While HBO Max's The Suicide Squad that much worse. Despite the insistence of Peacemaker (John Cena) himself, the public does not view Chris Smith as a hero. Instead, Peacemaker is seen as a villain who was arrested and recruited into Amanda Waller's Task Force X. However, it seems as though that wasn't always the case when Smith first came onto the scene with his suit and ridiculous helmet, thanks to the character Kite-Man.
While Harley Quinn series, serving as the fiancé to Poison Ivy before she ultimately chooses Harley.
Peacemaker episode 5 revealed that Kite-Man was the first villain Peacemaker ever took down, bringing Charlie Brown into the DCEU canon following other ridiculous DCEU canon-confirmed characters such as Bat-Mite or Matter-Eater Lad. However, the newspaper clipping confirming Kite-Man's existence also labels Peacemaker as a hero, confirming he was indeed viewed as such when he first began fighting crime. However, it seems as though that perspective changed over time as his image was corrupted, likely due to his own antics and brutal methods of justice combined with an abusive upbringing from his father. Killing Rick Flagg in The Suicide Squad doesn't help his personal self-image either.
While he may have started as a hero, Peacemaker eventually earned himself a spot on Task Force X, ing other killers and villains for Director Amanda Waller. Unfortunately, Smith's argument in Peacemaker episode 4 with his dad's neighbor s the unwanted perception as well, solidifying the fact that he's considered by some to be an outright villain despite his wishes to be seen otherwise. By keeping the newspaper clipping of his first adventure taking down Kite-Man, Chris Smith further confirms that he still wants to be seen as a hero.
While Bat-Mite, Matter-Eater Lad, and Doll Man were all made DCEU canon via jokes, the reveal of Kite-Man confirms a crucial piece of Chris Smith's past, which is continuing to be unveiled as the show goes on. Smith wasn't always seen as a bad guy in the DCEU, and he doesn't want to be seen as a bad guy now in the present despite his role in The Suicide Squad. Who knows? Perhaps Peacemaker will be able to redeem his reputation and image after he saves the world in this new series.
