Summary

  • Poison Ivy's ultimate form demonstrates her ascension to new heights of power.
  • Pamela Isley sures her greatest enemy, the Floronic Man.
  • Gotham is lucky Poison Ivy will use her god-like new form for good.

Poison Ivy has undertaken an incredible journey, and it has paid off in spades as she unveils an exquisite battle form that ties her directly to the Green. As Pam faces her creator in a battle for the planet itself, she taps into the very essence of the Earth and her own imagination to defeat the Floronic Man. Ivy's new look spotlights how much her abilities have grown and changed.

In Poison Ivy #22 by G. Willow Wilson and Haining, Pamela is forced to confront Jason Woodrue and her zombified Lamia “children,” which spawned from her recent changes in powers (and motivations). Moreover, Poison Ivy must defeat her own internal demons to stand a chance against the Floronic Man. These conflicts give rise to Poison Ivy's ultimate new organic form, demonstrating just how god-like she's become.

Poison Ivy wears armorof bark and vines and creates a tall helmet made of red organic material. Her mouth is visible.

Ivy proves that she’s more than up to the task of defeating Woodrue and draws upon everything she is and knows before emerging as a towering figure wreathed in vines. Little marks her as “human” in artist Haining’s design — besides her still-visible mouth underneath a strange, organic "helmet" — but her new form isn't just visual; it represents her ascension to new heights of power.

Pamela Isley Has Sured Her Greatest Enemy

Since Poison Ivy #1, Pam Isley has been on a journey of self-discovery. What began as a last ditch shot at saving Earth from humanity — even as her connection to the Green was severed and as she could feel herself dying — turned into a heroic effort to save the world and her loved ones from her mistakes. Not only has she tapped into the Green again, which was once a bond she believed to be gone for good, but she has reached beyond anything she accomplished before. Poison Ivy knows it’s what separates her from Woodrue, who “can’t see the tapestry of life on Earth.

Poison Ivy #1 by Wilson, Marcio Takara, Arif Prianto, and Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou launched in 2022 to great critical acclaim. Originally intended as a six-issue miniseries, Poison Ivy eventually landed a 12-issue run, and then was promoted to an ongoing series: the first in the character's history. The award-winning series by Wilson and Takara continues, and the first arcs are available digitally and in collected editions from DC Comics.

As her body visibly changes, Ivy forges a deeper connection to life than she's ever felt and describes the intricate network that connects every living thing: a network that everyone listens to "without even realizing what [they] hear." Her words ring true, and the silent call she sends out into the universe at least appears to reach Batman in Gotham City. She its that she still does not have dominion over plant life like she did before, but she's moved past it and now holds a completely different kind of power — one that Woodrue can't hope to grasp or defeat.

Pamela Isley never intended to become a villain.

Just as she unveils her ultra-powerful form, Poison Ivy proves that she's willing to give it up if it means saving the world.
