The Nintendo leaks seem to be showing no signs of stopping, this time with beta sprites of Pokémon from Luigi being found in Super Mario 64 hitting the internet and blowing Nintendo fans' collective minds.
This isn't the first instance of Pokémon beta sprites cropping their way onto the internet. In April, source code of Pokémon Diamond & Pearl was leaked along with the entire source code for the Nintendo 3DS. The source code wasn't delved into detail back then, but with the latest series of Nintendo leaks comes an in depth look at the source code of the Gen 4 Pokémon games.
Reported via ResetEra, this leak is the continuation of leaks that have were revealed via Nintendo's data breach on Friday, which includes leaks such as the prototype SNES games. In this leak, the beta sprites of all the Gen 4 Pokémon have been shown, with some looking completely different than their final versions. Rotom, the Pokémon that's known for being encountered via interacting with a TV and for being the Pokédex in the Gen 7 games, is drawn as a simple spark in its beta version. The Garchomp line has a drastic change in coloration and formation, the Pokémon god Arceus is draped in a foglike shadow with orange circles for eyes, and Giratina is a completely different creature and was named Kimairan, which is similar to the Japanese word for chimera. Given how much of an amalgamation this Giratina looks like, being named after a chimera makes a lot of sense.
Along with the beta sprites for the Gen 4 Pokémon, sprites were also uncovered of unused gender differences in various Pokémon. A compilation of them has been ed YouTuber Mixeli, known for ing the OST and remixes of the Pokémon OST. Mixeli has also also ed beta sprites of the trainers of Pokémon Diamond & Pearl like of the male playable/rival character Lucas, as well as the beta OST of some songs Pokémon Diamond & Pearl such as the theme for champion Cynthia.
These sprites, though bizarre, are interesting alternate takes on fan favorite Pokémon. Seeing Arceus draped in a mysterious shadow rather than a horse like god creature is something that provides its own kind of appeal for what's supposed to be the God of Pokémon. Of course, there's no doubt the Nintendo leaks won't end here, with how rapid fire they're appearing. This in depth look at Pokémon Diamond & Pearl is sure to inspire a plethora of fanart through the sheer wackiness of how these creatures were
