Available now on the Nintendo eShop, Pokémon Quest has players going on expeditions for treasure while facing off against wild pocket monsters. Players can control a team of three Pokémon at once using touchscreen controls and take advantage of a new item called Power Stones to customize their stats. It's set in an all-new location called Tumblecube Island, which fits in with the new cube aesthetic the game has going for it.

Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu! and Let's Go, Eevee! is set in the Kanto region, which is where the original games took place, and is heavily inspired by 1998's Pokémon Yellow for Game Boy. It will blend the series' role-playing game structure with the action of Niantic's mobile hit Pokémon Go. Other new features include the ability to play cooperatively with a local friend, which is a first for the RPG series.

It will launch with what Nintendo is calling the PokéBall Plus, which is a new Joy-Con controller that will be able to connect with Pokémon Go in order to transfer pocket monsters from one game to the other. The trailer shows a connected experience that has players using the PokéBall Plus to take their captured Pokémon on walks and will even use the controller to simulate a tossing motion in order to catch them.

Junichi Masuda, who is the director at Pokémon developer Game Freak, spoke of the new direction of the series. "With the launch of Pokémon Go in 2016 and the global sensation that ensued, millions of new players were introduced to the world of Pokémon," said Masuda. "We have crafted these two new titles to be an accessible entry point to our core RPG series while giving our longtime fans a new way to play Pokémon."

Both of these titles mark interesting departures for the Pokémon series. They're set to try new things, and look to be aimed towards a younger or more casual set of gamers. The Pokémon Company also confirmed that the next "core" title in the role-playing game series is still in development and set for a 2019 release, so it looks like all types of players will be satisfied sooner or later by Nintendo. Either way, Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu! and Let's Go, Eevee! will undoubtedly boost Nintendo Switch sales during a pivotal time for Nintendo later this year.

Pokémon Quest is available now on Nintendo Switch and will release on mobile devices in late June, while Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu! and Let's Go, Eevee! will release on November 16, exclusively for Switch.
