Gigantamax Blastoise is making its Pokémon GO debut in Max Raid Battles, meaning you can battle and potentially catch this powerful creature to add to your collection. Gigantamax Pokémon are expected to be the most challenging opponents in the game, so it's important that you come prepared with a team of strong counters that can target Blastoise's weaknesses.

Arriving alongside Gigantamax Charizard and Gigantamax Venusaur as part of the GO Bigger event, Gigantamax Blastoise will be appearing in six-star Max Raid Battles at Power Spots from October 26 to October 27, 2024. You'll most likely need to team up with at least 10 other Trainers for a chance of victory, although the maximum number of entrants is 40, so the more Trainers you can participate with, the better.

Gigantamax Blastoise Weaknesses & Resistances

There Are Two Vulnerabilities You Need To Target

Gigantamax Blastoise is a Water-type Pokémon, which means its only weaknesses are Electric and Grass-type attacks. Given the limited number of Dynamax-capable Pokémon that are available in Pokémon GO right now, your best option is to focus on Grass-type Pokémon with Grass-type movesets.

On the other hand, Gigantamax Blastoise is resistant to Fire, Ice, Steel, and Water-type attacks. Avoid using these move types wherever possible, as they won't deal much damage. That rules out the likes of Blastoise and Charizard – only run these on your team if they're the only Dynamax-capable Pokémon you have.

Best Counters For Gigantamax Blastoise

Grass-Type Dynamax Pokémon Are Best

Rillaboom and Venusaur on the Pokemon GO map

The best counters for Gigantamax Blastoise are Dynamax Venusaur and Dynamax Rillaboom, as these are the strongest Dynamax-capable Pokémon with both a Fast Attack and a Charged Attack that can target Blastoise's weaknesses.

For Dynamax Venusaur, you'll want to run Vine Whip and Frenzy Plant. For Dynamax Rillaboom, you'll want to run Razor Leaf and Grass Knot. All of these moves will benefit from STAB (Same-Type Attack Bonus), which grants some extra damage, but most importantly, they'll give both Pokémon a Grass-type Max Move to use when Dynamaxed in battle, which is the key to overcoming Gigantamax Blastoise.

that only Dynamax Pokémon and Gigantamax Pokémon can take part in Max Raid Battles.

My next recommendation to take into battle against Gigantamax Blastoise would be Dynamax Greedent. Although it's not a Grass-type Pokémon, it does have access to a complete Grass-type moveset: Bullet Seed and Trailblaze. This lets it deal super-effective damage and unleash a Grass-type Max Move when Dynamaxed, which gives it an advantage over some of the other Dynamax-capable Pokémon in the game.

If you don't have any of those Pokémon in your collection, choose the three most powerful Dynamax-capable Pokémon you own and hope for the best! A good choice would be something like Dynamax Metagross. While these Pokémon can't target any of Gigantamax Blastoise's weaknesses in Pokémon GO, they are very strong in general, which will hopefully be enough to see you through the battle.
