Niantic, the developer of Pokémon GO, has recently announced the Legendary Flight event for Trainers old and new to participate in. The latest in the Dual Destiny season, this is an ongoing event spanning multiple weeks. The main perks of this one are that, along with being focused around the three legendary birds, Pocket Monsters, Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres, you'll be able to take them on with an emphasis on the game's latest twist mechanic.

Specifically, you will get the chance to battle and hopefully catch the Legendary birds in their Dynamax form via Max Battles. Their Galarian forms are still among the rarest Pokémon in Pokémon GO but are still great additions to your collections if you participate in the event within specific scheduled dates. What's more, each week across Legendary Flight will offer up additional Max Battles against past bosses as well, giving you extra chances to snag them if you missed out on any from the latest Max Mondays schedule over the recent weeks.

Watch Your Calendars Over The Next Three Weeks

In Pokémon GO, the Legendary Flight will start on Monday, January 20th, 2025, at 6 PM, where Dynamax Articuno's debut will be available as a five-star Max Monday boss at all Power Spots for one hour until 7 PM. Afterward, Dynamax Articuno will then be available as a Max Battle week boss across certain Power Spots on your map until Monday, January 27th. Dyamax Zapdos and Dyanmax Moltres will follow this pattern as well according to the following schedule:

Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres' types are Ice, Electric, and Moltres, respectively. So, organize your team according to your boss' weaknesses for the best chance of beating each Max Battle.

Having Max Monday and Max Battle Weeks for Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres means you get the best of both worlds. While Max Mondays are more of a guarantee if you can play the game within its hour timeframe, since the featured Pokémon will be the Max Battle boss at all Power Spots, forgetting about it or simply being unable to play means you'll miss your shot. Although Max Battle Weeks doesn't provide that guarantee, with Max Battles at Power Spots being shared with other Pokémon, you'll have more chances to catch each Legendary bird over that longer period.

All Shiny Pokémon During Legendary Flight Event

Each Legendary Bird & Other Bosses

Legendary Flight will also offer Pokémon GO players the chance to encounter and catch several Shiny Pokémon, including the new Dynamax Articuno, Dynamax Zapdos, and Dynamax Moltres. This means that after you have defeated any of these bosses and proceeded to the catch screen to try and capture the boss, there is a chance you may encounter a Shiny version. In addition, there will be Max Battles during Legendary Flight as well, the following of which can be Shiny as well:

• Charmander
• Beldum
• Bulbasaur
• Cryogonal
• Squirtle
• Krabby

Keep in mind that the odds of encountering a Shiny Pokémon vary but never tend to be relatively high, only being mostly achievable during Community Day events. If you're a keen Shiny collector and want to get alternate-colored versions of the Legendary birds, you might end up needing them to hunt them for a long time during Legendary Flight. Nevertheless, with enough trial and error, you might end up lucky enough to find at least one.

Additional Max Battles

More Of The Bosses You've Seen Before

While not all of them can be Shiny in the game just yet, other Max Battle bosses are available during Pokémon GO's Legendary Flight event, like Charmander, Scorbunny, Grookey, and Krabby. Three different Pokémon are available during each week of the event. From January 20th to 27th, you can find Charmander, Scorbunny, and Beldum in Pokémon GO as extra Max Battle bosses, along with Articuno.

From January 27th to February 3rd, you can encounter Bulbasaur, Cryogonal, and Grookey as Max Battle bosses with Zapdos.
