After evolving Mankey into Primeape in Pokémon GO, you'll be faced with a bit of a roadblock, as its final evolution requires you to "adventure together," but the game doesn't explain what exactly you need to do. Like some other evolutions in the game, you'll need to set Primeape as your Buddy and complete a specific task together before it can evolve into the ghostly Annihilape.

Mankey and Primeape have been fan favorites ever since they debuted in the first mainline games, Pokémon Red & Blue, so it was a massive surprise when the Fighting-type family got another addition with Annihilape in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet. Not long after, Annihilape made its Pokémon GO debut during a special Battle Week event in January 2024, becoming a PvP champion in the process.

How To Evolve Primeape Into Annihilape In Pokémon GO

Meet A Special Buddy Requirement

Annihilape in Pokemon GO

To evolve Primeape into Annihilape in Pokémon GO, you'll need to defeat 30 Ghost-type or Psychic-type Pokémon in battle with Primeape as your Buddy Pokémon and then spend 100 Candy to complete the evolution process.

Before you can do any of this, you'll need to set Primeape as your Buddy. You can do this directly from Primeape's information page. Scroll to the bottom and tap the 'Swap Buddies' button, then confirm the action. Alternatively, you can change your Buddy by tapping on your current Buddy's icon at the bottom of the map screen and selecting the 'Swap Buddies' button from this page.

As for the steep 100 Candy cost, if you're struggling to save up enough, there are a few things you can do. First, transfer any Mankey or Primeape you don't need. Second, set Primeape as your Buddy (which you'll need to do anyway) and go exploring together for a chance at finding Candy. Finally, make sure you're using Pinap Berries when catching Mankey in the wild.

If you want to evolve Primeape as quickly as possible, a good idea is to battle a friend and ask them to put weak Ghost-type or Psychic-type Pokémon on their team. If you keep doing this, you'll meet the evolution requirements in no time at all.

Everything You Need To Know About Annihilape

It's A GO Battle League Champion

Annihilape on a ghost-type background in Pokemon GO

While Mankey and Primeape are both Fighting-type Pokémon, their final evolution, Annihilape, is a Fighting/Ghost-type creature with a fearsome, ghostly appearance. According to its Pokédex entry, this evolution occurred because Primeape got so angry that its power transcended its physical form. No wonder it's known as the 'Rage Monkey Pokémon'.

If you're curious whether Annihilape is any good in Pokémon GO, the good news is that it absolutely is. Since its debut, Annihilape has made waves in the Great League, where excellent stats and a great Fighting-type moveset allow it to take down loads of key opponents like Registeel, Skarmory, Galarian Stunfisk, and even Medicham. It's definitely worth having one on your team.

The best moveset for Annihilape is Counter as a Fast Attack, with Close Combat and Shadow Ball as Charged Attacks. If you prefer extra coverage options, you can swap Close Combat for Ice Punch.

Annihilape is also an excellent choice for the Ultra League, although it falls off by the time it hits the Master League and its lack of a limit. It's also not worth using Annihilape as a Raid attacker in Pokémon GO, as it lacks a full Ghost-type moveset and there are much better Fighting-types Pokémon like Terrakion, Lucario, and Conkeldurr to choose from.
