A new Special Research in recently added Mega forms of Latias and Latios.

Earlier this year, Pokémon GO introduced a Special Research surrounding the nefarious Team GO Rocket in which players had to find Giovanni and defeat him to capture Shadow Latias. Team GO Rocket Grunts are often present at PokéStops or found floating in hot air balloons above the player when exploring different areas, with each grunt possessing a different Shadow Pokémon to rescue and catch. However, battling Team GO Rocket Boss Giovanni can offer players a chance at a rare and powerful encounter if they manage to defeat him.

In a recent blog post shared on Team GO Rocket Special Research story. Those who complete the Special Research will obtain a Super Rocket Radar and the opportunity to go up against boss Giovanni to rescue Shadow Latios. Like the Special Research featuring Shadow Latias, it is likely the battle against Giovanni will be difficult, giving players a good challenge if they choose to pick up the Special Research. Additionally, Latios is a powerful Legendary Pokémon, and it will likely add a substantial boost to a player's team.

The blog post also states Pokémon GO's Team Go Rocket Grunts and Leaders will all be sporting new Shadow Pokémon for players to encounter. This includes Shadow Geodude, Shadow Shinx, and Shadow Purrloin among others. Those hoping to add a powerful Luxray or Golem to their team will likely want to spend time finding and battling random Grunts, as well as Team GO Rocket Leaders Cliff, Arlo, and Sierra when out playing, to ensure the most chances at encountering each Shadow Pokémon. The post also mentions the chance for increased Shiny Shadow Pokémon encounters, but there are no details on exactly which Pokémon species may be getting a boost.

In addition to battling Team GO Rocket in Pokémon GO, some fans may be getting ready to participate in the in-person Pokémon GO Fest 2022 event taking place in Seattle later in July. While in-person events like these are controversial, and often omit players unable to travel to large urban locations, those able to participate will likely have a better chance of encountering Team GO Rocket Grunts while out exploring. Hopefully, more Legendary Pokémon will feature in  Pokémon GO Special Research stories in the near future, giving players additional opportunities to encounter and catch the rare companions.
