Generation 2 Legendary Ho-Oh remains one of the best Pokémon with Fire-type attacks in its arsenal. The Fire and Flying type is still used as part of one of the best teams for Master League. If you have its Shadow form, you should always use it, as it is even stronger thanks to an increase in its core stats.

One of its biggest strengths is its range of attacks, covering Fire, Flying, Steel, Psychic, and even a Grass-type move. Its own unique typing means it is only weak to Rock-, Electric- or Water-type attacks while resisting seven different types. With a max of 4367, it can also withstand a lot of heat itself. As an ideal attacker for raids, you should make sure you have a high-level one at your disposal.

9 Landorus

A Unique Flying And Ground Combination

One of the Forces of Nature trio, Landorus has a unique typing that not many others have as a dual Flying- and Ground-type Pokémon. It is only weak to Ice and Water attacks while being able to set up with moves to take down the other best Flying-type Pokémon.

Despite being a Flying type, it can't learn any Flying-type attacks in Pokémon GO. Instead, it largely focuses on Ground- or Rock-type attacks. While Mud Shot is statistically its best fast attack, it is most effective when set up with Rock-type attack Rock Throw, making it super-effective against a number of the Legendary meta Pokémon.

8 Staraptor

The Best Core Flying Pokémon

Straraptor is as close as you can get to an outright Flying Pokémon on this list, with the dual Normal- and Flying-type making it very similar to the Pidgey evolution line but much stronger in Pokémon GO. Its Shadow version is particularly effective, especially if you are taking on any Bug-type Raids.

Straraptor's first evolution stage, Starley, is one of the most common Pokémon currently found in Pokémon GO.

Straraptor is the best bird in Pokémon GO, with a high attack stat of 234, and is much easier than the other Pokémon on this list to get a hold of and fully max out due to not being a Legendary. Straraptor fairs very well in Great and Ultra League battles. When set up with Fly as its fast attack and Close Combat as its charged move, it can cover a lot of types that are used in the meta.

7 Zapdos

An Original Star & Still A Fierce Attacker

One of the original Gen 1 Legendary birds, Zapdos, has its place cemented in Pokémon lore, but it remains a great option as a dual Flying and Electric type in Pokémon GO. It is only weak to Ice- or Rock-type attacks, while taking reduced damage from six different types. It is one of the main Electric powerhouses in the game, making it valuable when taking on Team GO Rocket.

While all of its fast attacks are Electric-type moves, its best charged attack is Flying move Drill Peck. It is a great option for Raids but truly shines in the Ultra and Master League PvP. Zapdos can dominate a lot of the other meta options, including Steel- and Fairy-type Pokémon.

6 Dragonite

A Dominant Force Against Fellow Dragons

Dragon-type Pokémon remain some of the strongest in Pokémon GO due to their overall high stats, including fantastic attack power. One of the best is the original Dragon- and Flying-type Pokémon, Dragonite. Due to the length of time since it was released in the game, it is easy to level up, having been featured a number of times throughout various events. Its stats are strong across the board, headlined by a max of 4287 and attack of 263.

Shadow Dragonite is my third-highest Pokémon in Pokémon GO, and I use it for a large number of raids due to its attacking power. It is at its strongest when set up with Dragon-type moves Dragon Tail and Draco Meteor, but it can also be given Flying-type charged move Hurricane. It can also feasibly be used in all three tiers of the GO Battle League: Great, Ultra, and Master.

5 Lugia

The Best Flying Defender

Gen 2 Legendary Lugia sures a lot of its competition and is one of the best defenders in Pokémon GO. The Psychic- and Flying-type Pokémon has a max of 4186, but it boasts an outstanding defense stat of 310. While this gives it limited use in raids as an attacker, it remains strong in PvP.

Lugia shines when trying to slow opponents down in PvP due to the amount of damage it can take, making it a great option to switch to if you are struggling. Its best combination of moves is Extrasensory and Aeroblast due to the total damage output it can deal compared to its other potential attacks.

4 Moltres

A Powerful Fire Attacker

Edging out fellow Legendary Ho-Oh, fellow Fire- and Flying-type Legendary Moltres is still a dominating force, making it the top Flying-type from the early generation of Pokémon. It is another Flying type with a huge attack stat of 251, which, when given Wing Attack and Sky Attack as its two offensive moves, is the best for the type.

You can switch between its two Fast Moves, Wing Attack and Fire Spin, to dominate in raid battles and against AI teams.

In addition to its Shadow version, Moltres is now also available as a Dynamax Pokémon, making it one of the strongest to currently feature in Pokémon GO, alongside its fellow Legendary birds. Like the other Gen 1 Pokémon on this list, you will likely have multiple versions of Moltres, making it much easier to level up.

3 Yveltal

A Dark Attacking Threat

Without a doubt, the best Flying-type Pokémon that can't currently be a Shadow or Mega in Pokémon GO is Legendary Dark- and Flying-type Yveltal. It is a monster stat-wise, with a max of 4275, attack of 250, and stamina of 246. It is especially effective against AI teams like Team GO Rocket Boss Giovanni, and with its Dark-type move Snarl and Flying-type move Oblivion Wing, it is able to quickly dismantle opponents.

Yveltal also excels in PvP with its new fast attack, Sucker Punch. The Dark-type move is incredibly quick to take down opponents' health, making it common in a number of the best teams for the Master League Cup. It can dominate a number of the other Meta types in Pokémon GO such as Ghost or Psychic types.

2 Salamence

A Wide Spread Of Moves To Cover All Opponents

Another exceptional Dragon and Flying type is Salamance. It has become one of the best options in Pokémon GO, especially as a raid attacker, due to its typing and its 277 attack stat, one of the highest in the game. Salamance also boosts a wide variety of attacks, covering, Dark-, Fire-, Dragon-, Water- and Flying-type moves.

I have found Salamence can be adapted with its move to be super-effective against a large number of raid bosses. It is especially dominant in either its Shadow or Mega forms, but it works best when set up with Dragon-type move Dragon Tail as its fast attack and either Fly or Outrage as its charged move. It is also a favorite in PvP battles due to its versatility to keep opponents guessing.

1 Rayquaza

The Best Flying Type Pokémon

The best Flying Pokémon in Pokémon GO is Dragon and Flying type Rayquaza. It is the strongest overall attacker for Raid Battles, as well as being a very popular choice for PvP matches. Rayquaza is very effective with Flying-type attacks compared to a number of Pokémon in this list. This is especially true when lined up with Air Slash as its Fast attack and Dragon Ascent as its charged attack, giving it one of the highest Damage Per Second abilities of any Pokémon.
