New mechanics have been continuously added to Pokémon GO over the years to give the game a refreshed feeling, and Ultra Wormholes do just that. The only way to catch the mysterious Ultra Beasts, these anomalies can occasionally appear in a certain way on the map. To the casual Trainer who might not have been playing the game last time they appeared, this can certainly appear confusing.
However, once it's known how and why they appear, finding some of the more elusive Pocket Monsters in the Pokémon GO Raid Boss schedule will be a lot easier. Fans of the Sun and Moon games will definitely recognize Ultra Wormholes and their significance. Those who don't will have their knowledge of Pokémon lore expand a bit.
What An Ultra Wormhole Is In Pokémon GO
It's Out Of This World
Ultra Wormholes are portals in Pokémon GO that connect to Ultra Space, allowing Ultra Beasts to come into the game's world. This follows the same theme as they originally did in Pokémon Sun and Moon, originally discovered by Professor Mohn. In Pokémon GO specifically, Ultra Wormholes pop up over Gyms during certain events like Raid Hours.

All Ditto Disguises In Pokémon GO (November 2024)
By being aware of the 11 different types of Pokémon that can be a Ditto in disguise, you give yourself the best chance of catching one in Pokémon GO.
Instead of a large Egg appearing over a Gym like normal, a cone-like dimensional gate will pop up instead. If players are after their favorite of Pokémon's Ultra Beasts to add to their Pokédex, this is the only way to get them. Any Ultra Beast faced this way is a 5-Star Raid boss, so it's wise to never approach one of these portals alone.
For the best chance of beating an Ultra Beast, a Raid party is needed of at least three to five players. The larger the party, the better.
Which Ultra Beasts Appear In Ultra Wormholes
Nihilego, Stakataka, & More
All 11 Ultra Beasts are now in Pokémon GO, and can be found through Ultra Wormholes, from Nihilego and Pheromosa as part of the first wave added all the way to Stakataka and Naganadel. The remaining extraterrestrial creatures have slowly been added to the game over time. The complete selection of Ultra Beasts that can be found in Pokémon GO is as follows:
- Blacephalon
- Buzzwole
- Celesteela
- Guzzlord
- Kartana
- Naganadel
- Nihilego
- Pheromosa
- Poipole
- Stakataka
- Xurkitree
Keep in mind that every Ultra Beast added to Pokémon GO won't be available to catch at the same time. Players will only be able to catch a specific member of the Ultra Space beings when they're available for Pokémon GO events like Raid Hours. Keep a look-out for nearby Raids on the map while playing Pokémon GO, and hopefully, soon, an Ultra Wormhole will be found containing the latest Ultra Beast that's ready to be battled and caught.
