A new leak claims that a classic Gen 1 Pokémon will get a new Mega Evolution in Pokémon Legends: Z-A. Set to release later this year, Pokémon Legends: Z-A is a revolutionary new Pokémon game with a new dynamic battle system and a new plot set in Kalos's Lumiose City. While many details about the game are still unknown, we do know that the game will bring back Mega Evolution as a mechanic. Although nothing's confirmed currently, many fans anticipate that we'll also get new Mega Evolutions in the game.

Over the weekend, rumors emerged about one classic Pokémon getting a Mega Evolution in Pokémon Legends: Z-A. Per reports, Victreebel, the Gen 1 Pokémon best known for being a member of Team Rocket's original lineup, will get a Mega Evolution. The report originally came from Riddler Khu, a leaker with some accuracy, and was more recently backed up by Centro Leaks. Interestingly, given the parallels between Victreebel and Vileplume, this could indicate that we'll also get a Mega Evolved form for Vileplume as well.

What We Know About Pokémon Legends: Z-A So Far

Game's Starters And Basic Plot Are Known, But New Pokémon And Forms Are Still Unknown

As The Pokémon Company has only released two trailers for Pokémon Legends: Z-A, we still know relatively little about the game. We know that it will take place entirely within Lumiose City, which now has Wild Areas similar to urban parks throughout the city. Players will be tasked with aiding in a massive revitalization of the city and will be aided by the Starter Pokémon Chikorita, Tepig, and Totodile. We also know that the game will utilize a new real-time battle system, with moves tied to timers and the ability to dodge and position Pokémon for attacks.

New details about Pokémon Legends: Z-A have been revealed, including official reveal of the starters, a new battle mechanic, and much more.

We also know that the game will feature at least one "missing" Pokémon form. Eternal Flower Floette will be appearing alongside its trainer AZ. While this alternate Floette form made an appearance in Pokémon X and Y, it was never released as a playable Pokémon form despite having an exclusive move in the game's files. The inclusion of Eternal Flower Floette likely means that the Pokémon will finally be released for players to use in some format in the new game.

Mega Victreebel Could be Very Gnarly

Victreebel Is Exactly The Kind Of Horrifying Pokémon We Want To See Get A Mega Evolution

A group of Victreebel confronting the main cast of the Pokemon anime

Assuming that the rumors are correct, Mega Victreebel could be a fantastic addition to Pokémon canon. While Gen 1 Pokémon get a bit too much love at times, the Bellsprout line has suffered ever since it was ed up on for a divergent evolution tree like the Oddish line. Mega Victreebel could be appropriately horrifying, especially as it takes inspiration from real-world carnivorous plants that devour insects by luring them into honey pot-like traps.

Imagine that style of Pokémon amped up to 10,000 thanks to the power of Mega Evolution. We can't wait to hear more about Pokémon Legends: Z-A in the coming months.
