During the Pokémon Presents event streamed today, the company gave fans a more detailed look at what to expect from the next entry in the Pokémon Legends series. The new information confirms Chikorita, Tepig, and Totodile as the game's starters, reveals a new battle mechanic that incorporates timing and positioning in attacks, and more. Although the release date for Pokémon Legends: Z - A was not revealed, the video reiterated the release window of "late 2025."

The new video revealed an exciting new trailer for Pokémon Legends: Z - A, and took a closer look at some of the features fans can expect from the game. Upon arrival in Lumiose City, players will get to choose between the game's starters: the grass-type Chikorita, fire-type Tepig, or water-type Totodile.

They'll also get to meet a new friend, who will appear either as the male Urbain or female Taunie, presumably depending on the gender players choose for their own character. The video revealed that players will be staying at a hotel owned by the cryptically named AZ and his partner, Eternal Flower Floette. Several other characters were introduced, including the company Quasartico Inc. and some of its .

The catching mechanic from Arceus will be returning, which allows players to throw Poké balls at wild Pokémon without needing to engage them in battle, first. When battles do take place, they'll incorporate a new mechanic which requires proper positioning and timing for optimal attacks, a mechanic never before seen in a Pokémon game. The trailer also officially confirmed that Mega Evolutions will be available in Pokémon Legends: Z - A, opening up many strategic possibilities for seasoned players.

The Pokémon Series Returns To The Kalos Region

It's been known for a while that Pokémon Legends: Z - A will return to the Kalos region of generation 6, from the Pokémon X & Y games. The game was also known to focus on the grand and circular Lumiose City, the largest city in the region that surrounds the striking Prism Tower. The new video confirms these details but also reveals that the focus on the city might be even more complete than we initially imagined. Based on the new footage and information, it appears that battles, exploration, and other interactions with Pokémon will take place directly inside the city limits.

The game will take place in the midst of a "high-tech urban redevelopment plan" to turn it into a city for Pokémon and people to share. It seems from the trailer that the city will be divided into "Wild Zones" where Pokémon can live in their natural habitats within the city's borders.
