A few Paradox creatures in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet DLCs have been confirmed by Nintendo ahead of the additional contents’ releases later this year. Paradox Pokémon are either ancient or futuristic versions of already established creatures in the franchise. Great Tusk, for instance, is an ancient form of Donphan, while Iron Thorns is a futuristic version of Tyranitar. They were introduced with the first Generation 9 games, namely Scarlet and Violet for Nintendo Switch. Pokémon Scarlet features ancient Paradox creatures, while Pokémon Violet has futuristic Paradox creatures.
These Pokémon, however, can be traded across the two games – in fact, it is necessary in order to complete the Pokédex. This will be true with the Paradox Pokémon in Scarlet and Violet DLCs once they are released. Each version of the game will have its own set of Paradox Pokémon and to obtain all the new creatures, it will be necessary to trade with other Trainers or use Pokémon HOME’s compatibility with Scarlet and Violet.
Only Scarlet & Violet: Indigo Disk DLC Has Paradox Pokémon Confirmed So Far
Scarlet and Violet’s DLCs lacked Paradox Pokémon in their early promotional materials, but that has since changed. In August’s Pokémon Presents, held on the official Pokémon YouTube channel, Nintendo confirmed two new Paradox Pokémon. They are, however, related to the Indigo Disk DLC for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. So far, there have not been any confirmations about whether the first expansion, Teal Mask, will receive new Paradox creatures or not. It is important to note that Teal Mask and Indigo Disk expansions compose a larger DLC pack known as The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero. Considering the location’s connection to Paradox Pokémon, perhaps Teal Mask will introduce new Paradox creatures.
Raging Bolt - Pokémon Scarlet Exclusive Paradox Pokémon
The first confirmed Paradox Pokémon in the Scarlet and Violet DLC, Indigo Disk, is called Raging Bolt. This Paradox Pokémon is exclusive to the Scarlet version of the Gen 9 games and seems to be an ancient form of Raikou, the Legendary Electric-type from Gen 2’s Johto region. Raging Bolt, however, takes on a more Jurassic approach to the beast. While it remains a quadrupedal creature, unlike Suicuine’s Paradox form, Walking Wake, it stands out due to its elongated neck, which makes it resemble a Brontosaurus. Instead of simply flowing on its back, Raging Bolt’s mane can wrap around its head, as if it were to conceal the creature’s fangs.
This mane is seen unfolding in Raging Bolt’s debut. Aside from its design, little else is actually known about this Paradox Pokémon from the Scarlet and Violet DLC Indigo Disk. Because Raging Bolt seems to share a relationship with Raikou, it is likely that at least one of its types will be Electric-type. As a Paradox Pokémon based on an ancient version of the creature, however, it is likely that Raging Bolt will have a second type. Walking Wake is both Water- and Dragon-type, so if Raging Bolt is to follow in its Jurassic-inspired footsteps, then it may just be Electric- and Dragon-type. This remains to be confirmed, however.
Iron Crown - Pokémon Violet Exclusive Paradox Pokémon
The second Paradox Pokémon in Scarlet and Violet’s Indigo Disk DLC is Iron Crown. While Raging Bolt is exclusive to Scarlet, Iron Crown will be exclusive to Pokémon Violet. This Paradox Pokémon seems to be a futuristic version of the Gen 5 Legendary Steel- and Fighting-type Coballion. Iron Crown retains the main design elements from its main source of inspiration, but as a futuristic Paradox Pokémon, it is embedded with metallic and technological elements. In a sense, it looks like a robot designed by humans based on Coballion’s original look, with tweaks to its horns and shoulder blades.
Like Raging Bolt, the types that Iron Crown will have as a Paradox Pokémon in the Scarlet and Violet Indigo Disk DLC is still unknown. As Coballion is a Steel- and Fighting-type Pokémon, it is likely that at least one of these types will transfer over to Iron Crown. Virizion’s futuristic form, Iron Leaves, kept the original Pokémon’s Grass-type and gained Psychic-type. If Iron Crown is to follow its fellow Swords of Justice’s theme, it may gain a Psychic-type as well, while keeping its Steel-type. Nevertheless, Nintendo has yet to confirm this information for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet’s DLC, Indigo Disk.
