Pokémon Scarlet and Violet's DLC, The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero, will be released in two parts, beginning with The Teal Mask, over the next few months. These new additions will develop a new story arc, explore new regions, and add hundreds of new Pokémon to the Paldean Pokédex. The Teal Mask is the first of two updates slated for release, while The Indigo Disk should follow shortly after.

It's less accurate to say that The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero is a single piece of DLC for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet; it's better seen as an expansion . The two parts are interlinked and tell a complete story, introducing characters, concepts, and settings in The Teal Mask that'll be tied into and resolved in The Indigo Disk. Each of the two parts will be a sizable expansion to the world of Scarlet and Violet. While there should be even further new additions to Pokémon Scarlet and Violet in The Indigo Disk DLC, there's already plenty to look forward to in The Teal Mask.

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet's Teal Mask expansion will be released alongside The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero DLC on Wednesday, September 13, 2023. This is in line with the fall 2023 release window initially revealed for the game, so part one is coming right on time. Part two of the DLC, The Indigo Disk, is slated for release sometime in winter 2023. There should be plenty of time to complete The Teal Mask's story and catch all the new Pokémon it introduces before its follow-up comes out.

New Pokémon In The Teal Mask

The three new Pokemon in The Teal Mask DLC: Okidogi, a green and black dog; Munkidori, a blue and black monkey, and Fezandipiti, a scarlet, violet, and black pheasant. All of them incorporate braided violet ribbons.

Naturally, a new Pokémon Scarlet and Violet DLC means new Pokémon, and The Teal Mask has them in spades. That includes three new Pokémon unique to the Kitakami setting, the first of which is Okidogi. Okidogi is a green and black, bipedal, doglike Pokémon. Okidogi displays a grimly determined smile, revealing a row of sharp teeth. All three of these brand-new Pokémon have the Toxic Chain ability, which gives all their offensive moves a slight chance to inflict poison on their target. They all sport a violet chain somewhere on their bodies - Okidogi seems to wear its chain as a flowing scarf.

Munkidori is the next Kitakami-unique Pokémon coming to Pokémon Scarlet and Violet's Teal Mask DLC. It resembles a blue and black monkey, with yellowed eyes and a wry smile. Munkidori's violet chain takes the form of a headband, which it playfully picks at in its official art.

Another new addition to Pokémon Scarlet and Violet in The Teal Mask DLC is Fezandipiti. As its name implies, its design is based on the real-world pheasant, with long plumes and colorful feathers. Fezandipiti incorporates the titular colors into its design, with scarlet wingtips and violet plumes around its eyes. It also wears the violet chain, but this time, it's tied into a sort of bow around Fezandipiti's collar.

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet's Teal Mask DLC also adds a new humanoid Pokémon called Ogerpon, who's portrayed as something of a mysterious figure. Ogerpon wears a green cape that resembles the wings of a butterfly, but also sports the title's teal mask, which gives it a birdlike face. The other new Pokémon in The Teal Mask are often referred to as Kitakami's protectors against a mythical ogre, so Ogerpon's name suggests it might be responsible for some of the region's misfortune.

Finally, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet's Pokédex will grow ever more complete with the addition of over 230 returning Pokémon in The Teal Mask DLC. This includes a number of fan favorites like Vulpix, Ninetales, Snorlax, Hoothoot, Aipom and Ambipom, Poochyena, Nuzleaf, and many more. There'll also be a new potential evolution for Applin: the candy apple-based Dipplin.

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet's Teal Mask update comes with purchase of its Hidden Treasure of Area Zero DLC, which costs $34.99 USD. That price includes The Indigo Disk update when it comes out in winter - there won't be any additional fee to play part two of the DLC. The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero DLC also comes with a Blueberry Academy school uniform outfit set, which trainers can equip as soon as they purchase it - even before embarking on their journey to Kitakami. Finally, those who buy The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero DLC before October 31, 2023, will receive a new regional form: a Hisuian Zoroark with a special move.

New Story Arc In Pokémon's Teal Mask DLC

A variety of colorful stands line a paved road in a screenshot from Pokemon's Teal Mask DLC. The road leads to a red, triangular gate, and beyond, a shrine.

The Teal Mask DLC for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet will take trainers out of the Paldea region as part of a t school trip with Blueberry Academy. The trip is led by the first of the Scarlet and Violet DLC's new characters: the teacher, Briar, who leads her students on a journey to the land of Kitakami. Kitakami is a mountainous region, with one particularly prominent peak. Surrounding it is a vibrant agricultural community, featuring apple orchards and rice paddies where people and Pokémon work the land. Trainers will also encounter two fellow Blueberry Academy students - the determined and protective Carmine, and her shy, reserved younger brother Kieran - who will accompany them as they delve into Kitakami's rich culture.

That culture includes thrilling folktales about three Pokémon who once protected the region from an evil ogre. Those are the three new Pokémon introduced in The Teal Mask DLC for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet: Okidogi, Munkidori, and Fezandipiti, collectively called The Loyal Three. The ogre hasn't yet been identified, but based on its name and ominous air, it's safe to assume this has something to do with Ogerpon.

The Loyal Three are celebrated in an annual Festival of Masks, which trainers will be able to attend in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet's Teal Mask DLC. That'll include a festive mini-game called Ogre Oustin'. This is a balloon-popping challenge in which trainers can ride around on their transformed Koraidon or Miraidon, bursting colorful balloons in order to earn mochi rewards. They can then feed the mochi to Pokémon in order to raise or reset their base points.

Perrin, a traveling photographer, will also feature in the DLC. She'll give trainers a series of Pokémon photography side quests. This should be a nice little diversion from The Teal Mask's main story, bringing Pokémon Snap-inspired gameplay to Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. Possibly through Perrin, players will also receive the Roto-Stick, a Rotom in the form of a selfie stick, which will allow them to take more widely angled in-game selfies.

That's everything coming in The Teal Mask DLC, but it's only part one of The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero. This new chapter for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet should greatly expand the game's scope, bringing trainers to a scenic new region full of unique and returning Pokémon.
