Using Pokémon Scarlet and Violet’s Quick Balls to catch Shiny Pokémon almost feels like cheating, considering the creatures’ rarity and their hard-to-obtain status. Quick Balls were introduced in Gen 4’s Diamond and Pearl, in the Sinnoh region, and have been in the franchise ever since then. Its main effect is having an increased catch rate when used in the first turn of any encounter. While it used to be a 4x catch rate modifier during Gen 4, that has since changed.

Quick Balls currently have a 5x catch rate modifier, making it even more effective when used in the first turn. If a Quick Ball is used in any other turn, it has a regular 1x catch rate. Shiny Pokémon in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, on the other hand, have a low spawn rate when compared to their normal-colored variants. While the majority of the Shiny hunting experience revolves around actually finding one, Quick Balls can be used as an exploit that swiftly eliminates the challenge and pleasure of the catch.

A Quick Ball Exploit Can Catch Most Shiny Pokémon In Scarlet & Violet

Because of its great catch rate, a Quick Ball can instantly end the thrill of catching a Shiny Pokémon after hunting it for hours. While the main difficulty in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet’s Shiny hunting is about encountering the desired alternative form of a creature, quickly catching it makes the search seem somewhat meaningless. In this sense, it is similar to using a Master Ball in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet to capture a Legendary, for example. While it is very practical and straightforward, the feeling of a grand encounter deserving of exhausting turns is simply inexistent.

Pokémon Scarlet & Violet Players Should Always Use Quick Balls For Wild Shinies

Despite the lack of a feeling of accomplishment when catching a Shiny Pokémon, players should always use Quick Balls to catch wild Shinies in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. This is due to the fact that Shinies are extremely hard to find, and players should use the Poké Ball with the best catch rate possible to ensure that they do not lose it under any circumstance. So, while it may feel like a cheap exploit or even cheating, it's really not.

While Shiny hunting in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, a player can go through the unfortunate event of witnessing a wild Forretress use Self-Destruct after failing to catch it with a less effective Poké Ball, for example. With a Quick Ball, a situation like this is less likely to happen. The feeling of losing a Shiny is much worse than that of not having an epic battle against it. Of course, this could also be solved with a manual save and hard reset before starting the encounter.

There are a few that may escape due to their own catch rate, requiring the player to use other types of Poké Balls, like Pokémon Scarlet and Violet’s Ultra Balls, but even that only has a 2x catch rate. There are more effective Poké Balls, such as the Love Ball and its 8x catch rate against foes that are the opposite gender than the player’s Pokémon, but Quick Ball’s availability and catch rate together make it the top choice for Shiny hunting in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, even if it does feel like cheating.
