Pokémon SLEEP has finally received an update that indicates fans will be able to play it sooner than expected. The mobile app was first announced back in 2019 and, since, has had little news revealed about it. The companion app is designed to player’s sleeping schedule and gamify it, allowing Pokémon to be collected based on sleeping habits.

Revealed through the Pokémon Presents livestream this Monday (February 27th), Pokémon SLEEP has received a release window. While an exact release date has not been provided, the mobile app is expected to arrive during the summer of 2023.

This means players will be able to and start using it after Pokémon SLEEP’s release date, which is scheduled sometime between mid-June and late September.

Pokémon SLEEP s Players' Sleeping Styles

Pokemon SLEEP's in-game Snorlax is sleeping. Around it are berries, grass, and a tree.

As revealed through the Pokémon Presents, Pokémon SLEEP is an app that s the player’s sleeping style when the phone is left charging near their bed. First, the sleep is measured, then recorded, and lastly analyzed. This will classify their sleeping style into one of three categories: dozing, snoozing, or slumbering. Depending on which category players receive, different Pokémon will appear sleeping in the mobile app’s virtual island around the central Snorlax. To accompany the gamification of the player’s sleep, there will be a new professor, called Neroli, who researches Pokémon’s sleeping patterns.

Pokémon SLEEP Is A Collecting Game

Pokemon SLEEP's alternative sleeping styles: Pikachu's Curled-Up Sleep, Spheal's ??? Sleep, Bulbasaur's Sunbathing Sleep, and Slowbro's ??? Sleep.

Asides from getting points in Pokémon SLEEP, the actual purpose of the app is still something of a mystery. According to the game’s presentation, it is said to help players wake up in the morning, but the exact method of doing that is not known. Pokémon with unique sleeping styles beyond the ones already mentioned are also bound to appear, such as the ones shown in the presentation: Slowpoke’s Goofy Sleep, Pikachu’s Droopy-Eared Sleep, and Totodile’s One-Eyed Sleep.

This collection-based sleeping activity should incentivize the action of sleeping and then finding the unique Pokémon after waking up. The mobile app Pokémon SLEEP was expected to come out a lot sooner, as it was revealed in 2019. The game initially had a 2020 release window, but that did not happen as planned. Until this Pokémon Presents, the project had not received any additional information.

Pokémon SLEEP is now officially set to be released sometime in the summer - September of 2023 for both iOS and Android devices. The Pokémon Presents livestream featured a lot of new information regarding various titles, including Pokémon Masters EX, Pokémon Unite, a new Pokémon stop-motion series by Netflix, and more. The main highlights, however, were both Pokémon SLEEP’s release window and the confirmation of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet’s DLCs.
