The full set for Pokémon Trading Card Game's dual set, Black Bolt & White Flare, has finally been revealed. While officially launching on June 6, 2025 in Japan, and July 18, 2025, worldwide, players can now take a full look at what they'll be getting into with this next big set. Acting as a bit of the Pokémon 151 set for Gen 5, Black Bolt and White Flare will feature 172 cards, including every Unova Pokémon.
Revealed by PokéBeach, all Gen 5 Pokémon will receive an alternate full-art design, ranging in rarity, but that's not all this set has to offer. Black Bolt and White Flare will also be introducing an all-new rarity to Pokémon TCG, BWR.
These new BWR cards feature a full-art, matte, monochromatic design, with only three releasing in this set. There will be one for each of the legendaries of Gen 5, Zekrom and Reshiram, and a third that will showcase Victini.

Black Bolt & White Flare Deliver A Dose Of Nostalgia
While this isn't the first look fans have gotten at this new set, as cards have been slowly revealed over the past few weeks, the full reveal features plenty of surprises. There's a major element of nostalgia in play, as Black Bolt & White Flare are bringing back several design choices reminiscent of Pokémon Black & White's original TCG run. With every Unova Pokémon receiving an alternate full-art, this set is not only massive but also likely to be a hot item for collectors.

Pokémon TCG Black Bolt & White Flare - Release Date, Cards, Pricing, & Set Info
The Pokémon TCG Black Bolt & White Flare Expansions have finally been fully unveiled and will be available to collectors worldwide this July.
Unfortunately, at this time, there are still only a handful of Secret Rares that have been revealed to the public, but they already look promising. Of the ones currently revealed, players can take a peek at the evolution stages of all three starters as well as a handful of others, which include the legendaries of Gen 5.

Secret Rares Are The True Standouts Of This TCG Set
While the set in general looks great, the real highlights of this set are the BWR rares and most of what we have yet to see. Releasing yet another set like Pokémon 151, which caused chaos throughout the world of Pokémon TCG, is exciting and terrifying. This set will likely see the same issues that a lot of Pokémon TCG releases have faced recently, given all that it has to offer. That being said, it shouldn't discourage Pokémon from following this strategy in the future.
Sets like Black Bolt & White Flare, which offer a secret rare for every Pokémon in that generation, give some much-needed attention to Pokémon who may only otherwise have a handful of cards out there. Unfortunately, that doesn't mean the favoritism has ceased, as fans have already been vocal about their disdain for the choice to make Serperior the only starter Pokémon ex in the set.
All that said, between the full Pokédex of Gen 5, secret rares for each one, and the newly added beautiful BWR rares, Pokémon Trading Card Game's Black Bolt and White Flare sets are sure to be a hit for most. As for whether this release will be a disaster and collectors will have trouble procuring the set, only time will tell.
