Today, Pokémon TCG Pocket revealed a first look at Mythical Island, the first expansion for Pokémon TCG Pocket which will feature brand-new cards. Revealed for the set are new cards like Mew ex and Aerodactyl ex, as well as brand-new alternate art cards. The set will be released on December 17. The first trailer for Mythical Island was shared via the official Pokémon TCG Pocket on X earlier today.

What We Know About Pokemon TCG Pocket's Mythical Island

New Set Will Contain 80 Cards, Including Fan-Favorite Pokemon

The new set will contain over 80 cards, with confirmed cards that include Mew ex, Aerodactyl ex, Morelull, Snivy, Vaporeon, Dedenne, Tauros, and Magmar, as well as new trainer cards featuring Blue and Leaf. Based on the promo art, it's assumed that Serperior, Gyarados, Liepard, and Volcarona will also have cards in the set. One of the most intriguing cards in the set is Aerodactyl ex, which has an ability that prevents opponents from evolving their Pokémon. That will make Basic Pokémon cards like Mew ex, Pikachu ex, and Mewtwo ex even more prominent in the metagame.

As previously stated by the developers, the addition of Mythical Island does not mean that Genetic Apex cards will be pulled from Pokémon TCG Pocket's in-game stores. It also appears, as a mini-set, Mythical Island won't have multiple booster packs like Genetic Apex. This should, hypothetically, mean that this new set will be a bit easier to collect than Genetic Apex.

Daily Players Need New Cards And Mythical Island Delivers

For players who are logging in daily, Genetic Apex has just about run its course. If players have opened two - three packs a day since launch, they likely have either completed the Genetic Apex base set (not including alternate art cards) or only have a few more cards left to grab.

Mythical Island comes at the perfect time to reinvigorate collectors and offer more deckbuilding options for players. I'm particularly excited to see what cards shake up the metagame and whether anything can topple Pikachu ex's stranglehold as the top deck in Pokémon TCG Pocket.
