The Prismatic Evolutions, a new special set focused on Eevee and its various evolved forms. While many of the cards in the new set are reprints, Prismatic Evolutions also features new ultra-rare and special illustration rare versions of many popular cards published over the last year. Although pull rates for these "secret rare" cards are traditionally very low, it appears that the Pokémon TCG has increased the pull rates for rare cards, at least for this set.

According to TCGPlayer, the pull rate for special illustration rare cards in Prismatic Evolutions is 1 in every 45 packs. In Pokémon TCG sets released in 2024, the pull rate for special illustration rare cards was 1 in every 90 packs. While the pull rate for Prismatic Evolutions is better than usual, this is offset somewhat by the large number of special illustration rare cards. There are 32 different special illustration rare cards in Prismatic Evolutions, meaning that there's a 1 in 1,440 chance of pulling a specific card.

Rates For Special Illustration Rare Cards Are Better, But Other Pull Rates Remain The Same

In addition to special illustration rare cards and other standard rarities, Prismatic Evolutions also features two special foil treatments. Some reverse holofoil cards feature a Poké Ball foil treatment, while other cards feature a special Master Ball foil treatment. The Master Ball foil treatment is especially impressive as it's a textured foil and extends to the card's artwork. The set also contains several new hyper rare cards with an alternate treatment, with an etched look compared to the usual gold foil look.

Our Take: Good Pull Rates Help Offset Special Set Limitations

Better Pull Rates Help Make Up For Needing To Buy Packs In Boxed Products

Espeon ex Special Illustration card in Prismatic Evolutions in Pokemon TCG

Demand for Prismatic Evolutions is at a fever pitch, in part because of cards like the new "Moonbreon" card that's currently selling for thousands of dollars. Since collectors can't buy individual booster packs from reputable sellers, demand is being driven even higher.

Providing fans with better pull rates should help offset some of the current demand and the need to buy boxed sets to get their hands on Prismatic Evolutions cards. Hopefully, the strong pull rates help to keep some of the individual card prices down, so that collectors don't need to spend thousands of dollars to complete this latest Pokémon TCG set.
