Producer J.J. Abrams confirms the Abrams talking about Portal movie writers as far back as 2016. Things have been fairly quiet on that front ever since, but now Abrams has an encouraging update.
Speaking with IGN promoting Super 8's 10th anniversary 4K Blu-ray release, Abrams was asked about the Portal movie. He was vague on specific details, but noted the film's coming along with a script that's being written. Check out his comments in the space below:
“We actually do have a script that’s being written for the Portal movie now at [Warner Bros.]. We’re really excited about the take and the pitch, so it feels like that thing’s finally on the rails.”
Abrams didn't provide the name of any writers working on the project, but with large I.P.'s that could lead to lucrative box office success, it's possible there are several writers involved. Given that the film is "finally on the rails," it's likely official details about the nature of the movie will be revealed soon. At this time, it's unclear what the Portal movie will focus on, but the filmmakers have plenty of ingenious material to pull from. Recent video game adaptations like Mortal Kombat and the Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City made an effort to stick close to the source material, so hopefully Portal follows suit.
