This is the best show on that no one's watching. And it's their loss entirely.

Someone asked me to compare The Gilded Age to Fellowes's other hit series, Downton Abbey. The difference between the two is not unlike that between Queen Elizabeth and her sister, Princess Margaret. If Downton is Fellowes's pride, then surely Gilded is his joy. Downton is decidedly prudish in comparison to the more vulgarian (American) Gilded. Neither is less compelling than the other. Downton had a much better position in the entertainment world than Gilded enjoys, and for that the world has missed out thus far. Perhaps Gilded will find the audience it deserves in good time.
