I don't understand how people keep giving this man a job. He has so many stinkers when it comes to directing that it's mind-boggling. He's a surefire bet to lose all your money when making a movie.

You drop the movie in a slot where it's competing against another one of your own movies (Moana,) Sonic, and Wicked during the same week people are more focused on traveling to and from places which is normally chaos because of poor planning and weather. It was DOA on arrival considering It didn't have the strongest following to begin with (youth wise) so a smashing opening week was always going to be tougher in comparison, given the IP resonates with an older audience versus Moana which is has a younger more active fan base. Sonic has also kept a relevant footprint with the youth more aggressively that lion King, not to mention 3 prior and recent movies and a limited series which have all done well to attract the kids of today. Lion King has to live on the nostalgia of its waning demo to drive turn out.
