Geez.. The author meant "well-written" in of story plot. Like how most kids shows- the why it was written- still have a vague storyline, they dont need to be watched in order. Usually the main takeaway is the excitement of what's happening in that episode, and some much larger goal. As opposed to very story driven animes. It was just supposed to be fun and spooky for kids, and a bit of story you can grow up with. None of that translates to "it did awful", so I think what they said is fair
