No one seems to have read the original book. I have and this character is far more true to the original character than any film rendition. In the book the monsters sole motivation is love. He forces the doctor to make him a partner and when the doctor destroys her, the monster goes on a hideous rampage to take away everything the doctor holds dear. The monster is highly intelligent, tough as hell and able to survive in the artic without special equipment. The main difference in this storyline being the doctor had an affair with his bride rather than murdering her but I'm absolutely certain the book's monster would have behaved in identical manner.

This is no “radical” reimagining but a return to the source material and for that I salute Mr. Gunn.

KGB used a poison dart shooting umbrella to carry out an assassination during the cold war so I'd love to see him get a hold of one or something. Also, it was clear to me at least that his brother's ignored him and bullied him. That's why he was stuck at home with mom while his brother's played together and they deliberately hide in an area he couldn't get to just to pick on him for his disability. While it wasn't over the top, I would say it was showing a muted more realistic version of the type of bullying and neglect he experienced as a result of his disability. Hence his attraction to Vic.
