Greta Gerwig's Narnia Remake Needs Radical Casting Thanks To One Of The Harshest Realities It Faces
There's a lot of hate for this movie that I find quite shortsighted. Just because Aslan will be voiced be Meryl Streep doesn't change a single thing about the character. Is Bart Simpson somehow less of a boy because he is voiced (and always has been voiced) by a woman?
After seeing what Gerwig did with Barbie and knowing the material in the Magician's Nephew, I'm extremely excited for this new film. I think Meryl Streep voicing Aslan will just give Him an "otherworldly" aspect, which he needs.
Greta Gerwig's Narnia Remake Needs Radical Casting Thanks To One Of The Harshest Realities It Faces
I'd encourage those fans to realize nothing has been reimagined about Aslan at all. They cast Meryl Streep as a voice. They have not said they are making the lion into a lioness -- it's perfectly possible that a woman can voice this character and still have it be a masculine character. In fact, I think it likely. There's a terrific unabridged audio series of these books and Prince Caspian is read by a woman. I don't recall myself enjoying Aslan any less in that book than in any of the others read by men.
Michael Bay To Direct Movie Adaptation Of Popular '80s Video Game, Sydney Sweeney To Produce
This is gonna flop if the studio is expecting a Minecraft or Mario level hit. Those were hits not because they were good, but because they could be enjoyed by whole families -- kids and adults who together are nostalgic for those games. This game doesn't sound like it checks that box.
The Two Towers Was Tolkien's Least Favorite Lord Of The Rings Title Due To A Problem I'd Never Considered
"The Return of the Fellowship of the Ring to the Two Towers." There, fixed it 😉
A Minecraft Movie's Massive Success Makes Jack Black's $33 Million Video Game Movie Bomb Even More Surprising
A major difference with Borderlands is it's not a family game like Minecraft and Mario. I brought my kids to these movies multiple times because of how excited they were, wanting to share the experience with multiple groups of friends.
(I'm glad I didn't have to explain "salt sacks" to them).
The Narnia Remake's Meryl Streep Casting Plan Will Be Controversial, But It Eases One Of My Biggest Fears About The Project
Respectfully, how does this show a lack of understanding of the text? Aslan appears as a lamb, an albatross, and a feral house cat, and probably in other ways that I'm not ing off the top of my head. And (spoilers) in the magicians nephew, it was a man not a woman who fails the test of temptation and brings evil into Narnia.
If Kate Mulgrew's Star Trek: Janeway Happens, I Hope It Avoids Picard's Big Mistake
The lesson from Picard is get better writers. Even season 1 was defined by me as "mass effect already did it, but better". Star trek used to be ahead of everything, now it is behind.
After Finally Playing Final Fantasy 6, I'm Convinced Square Enix Is Right About the Remake
I was gonna say the same thing! And much more feasible to produce.
Does Helm Hammerhand Have A Ring Of Power? LOTR Theory Explains Why Rohan's King Is So Powerful
Which ring of power? One of the nine? I don't think helm was a nazgul.
Maybe helm was just a big, tough, prideful guy.
War Of The Rohirrim's Rotten Tomatoes Score Continues A LOTR Streak That Started 10 Years Ago & It's Disappointing
The desolation of smaug had a higher score than unexpected journey? Unexpected journey is the only part of that trilogy worth watching, IMO. Which broke my heart because I expected so much from the cumberbatch-freeman smaug and bilbo scene.
New Lord Of The Rings Movie Is Now Third Franchise Movie To Get Rotten Status On Rotten Tomatoes
Saw with three preteens because they know my love for LotR and they love anime. It was definitely a meh movie, but I will say the kids loved it.
For me, two things. The pacing was terrible -- if they only picked up the pace and made it a 90 min move instead of 135, it might have actually been good. But the other thing is the animation could have been far better. I'm not a real anime watcher but I've seen attack on Titan and know what is possible with today's anime. War of the Rohirrim seemed like something out of the eighties by comparison.
Warner brothers ought to consider other anime studios next time (and I hope there's a next time! I want to see the fall of arnor and the last king of Gondor in anime. Though that will be dark if they do make it.)
"Let's Have More Tolkien": Lord Of The Rings Movie Writer Is Right About Tolkien's Adaptation Potential
I can imagine telling the stories of Gondor and Arnor's last kings, and their struggle against the witch-king. Would be very dark material though!
Dune: Prophecy Theory Reveals What Desmond Hart Really Is, And It Sets Up Jason Momoa's Duncan Idaho Return For Dune 3
You know gonna add another comment here. Conflating so much about artificial intelligence is missing the point of Dune, which is all about what human intelligence can be capable of when they put their minds to it.

Did I .. did I miss something? I thought a ghola was a clone. They could be conditioned to obeying a master or responding automatically to certain triggers. Later, (like, the time of Dune later), they would have their memories "resurfaced" from genetic memory by subjecting them to certain traumas. But nothing about a ghola, as far as I understand, is technological, other than being bioengineered. Certainly I don't recall artificial intelligence like this article suggests.
LEGO Horizon Adventures Is Another Misstep For PlayStation
I'm definitely getting Lego horizon regardless how good it is, just because my kids see me playing horizon and don't get it, but know I love it and want to bond with me over it.
But, it's weird where horizon seems to be going. There is incredible potential for the property that feels like is being squandered, for example the failed Netflix adaptation. I'm crossing my fingers that the MMO will be a hit.
Why The Chronicles Of Narnia Movies Ended Early
You make a very good point with tonality. You could almost do different media for 1 and 3. I could see 1 and 3 being marketed as off-shoots, maybe animated films.
I Think I Understand The War Of The Rohirrim's Divisive Main Character Choice
First good screen rant I've read on lord of the rings in a while. I think Hera makes perfect sense for exactly these reasons. She's a foil for us the audience to see Helm. And absolutely Helm should be wrapped in mystery, given some of the crazy stuff he's gonna do...
The Rings Of Power Season 2 Quietly Reverses Peter Jackson's Controversial Sauron Change
Was the eye ever controversial? Yes, it's literal, but there were times in the books when sauron was pretty close to being that literal (Frodo on Amon Hen comes to mind).
Also, why do we know the rings of power reversed this? Did sauron lose his physical form, which ought to happen when numenor falls?
Also also, is screen rant owned by Bezos? Honestly it really feels like it kisses up to this show a little too much.
Adar Killing Sauron Makes Much More Sense After The Rings Of Power's Morgoth Reveal
Actually kingslayer31488 , good shows change less than you think. I griped about the changes in the Two Towers, like Elrond and Aragorn's relationship, until I read the appendixes and was like "oh...oh yeah, that's all in here."
Movies aren't changing things as much as they are following a "show, don't tell" rule. They change the story only to be able to tell the story in a movie format.
I don't know what the heck rings of power is doing, but if they do in fact have more rights to the silmarillion than they are letting on, they could have put together a far better five season show.
A 70-Year-Old Lord Of The Rings Book Line Makes Me Worried About The Hunt For Gollum
Author overthinking this. Aragon can have faced many perils hunting through orc territory on the borders of Mordor and still consider Gollum's transformation the worst thing. After all, no one had ever experienced a fate like Gollum, and to not know what the cause of it was until discovering the truth about the ring should be the most worrying thing in middle earth.
No one knew what Gollum was. A creature that crept into windows looking for cradles? And then you meet him... Not an orc, size of a hobbit, barely alive yet strong and slippery, split personality. Plenty to worry about when you meet a sentient creature but don't recognize anything else about it.
