Elementary was alright. Sherlock was superior, with superior actors, superior tone (mostly), and an edgy aspect that no other series can touch. The Robert Downey Jr. films come close.

Elementary goes too far, trying to make Sherlock human. Several great adaptations go the reverse route, detailing how unusual and seemingly mentally unstable he is. History shows us similar real figures who would have been deemed insane or eccentric. So, this article's author attempting to suggest Elementary's Sherlock is in any way special for being written as more 'humane', frankly, is absurd.

No one watches or reads Sherlock Holmes for that. We want to see him pull the unimaginable out of the ether, and tell us who did the crime. Nothing more is required of a classic literary character.

I watched episode 1, well, half of it.. Not impressed. The showrunner really screwed up on the premise. Why keep condemned prisoners alive, and risk even a tiny chance of escape? They needed to put effort into a reason for that, instead of trying to ignore it. First episodes are for setting the audience up with the basic details like these. Twin Peaks is an example for why you give the details early.
