Tough question. Love Stagecoach, think Island in the Sky is underrated, blown away by the dark heart and sadness of The Searchers; most rewatchable - toss-up between Hatari and North to Alaska.

Although I love Sound of Music, there is no way it should be on the list at all, much less ranked higher than Lawrence of Arabia.

the Wild Bunch should also be here. And I prefer Once Upon a Time in the West over Good, Bad, and the Ugly.

Impressive how many times a commentary here makes claims that are just not true. Brando’s “best known films”? Only for neophytes.

I think there should be a distinction between doc. series and stand-alone documentary films. That you knew about Five Came Back, but placed nary a one of the films those directors made on your list, betrays your…immature knowledge.

How did a film focused on the Imperial Army make this list??? Great film, but still.

I think I understand you, but this is one film worth seeing again if one is willing to take it on its own . It is immersive in its meditative qualities. I have read the novel and seen the original 1962 ( I think) version - there are some reasons I like it - but Malick’s ambition and artistry has made this film rise in my estimation. Haunting…where Saving Private Ryan is exhausting and emotional. These are different qualities, not better. I rarely want haunting, but like to have a different cup of tea once in a while.
