You missed out on the Cold War. LOTS of SCIFI after 1984 portrayed the Communists as enslaved hive mind barely human creatures. Thats where the Borg came from, and trying to "Awaken" Borg to their Humanity or Individuality became the ST go to. It was already boring in 1989.

Its the books that are the problem. Those ideas are 5000 years old. Einstein and Asimov believed in a "something" just because the Universe is too tidy, just not the books. If the Universe was truly random, it would have ended already. Hawking itted to it with his BS "infinite universes before and after, and this is the only stable one" Doesnt fly . The Universe is STABLE. Physics doesnt allow it. Something outside of Physics keeps the Universe stable. Even Hawking couldnt understand how a Big Bang which should have spread particles evenly, did not. Anti matter should have obliterated matter, and even if matter survived (it did) no particles should have combined with other matter to form not just atoms but molecules. It did. By current Physics, the Universe should not exist but it does. Allow for a "Something" but ignore the books. I do.

Jefferies himself hated the refit. Its hard to realize now, but the people who made TOS were mostly WW2 vets and served on boring ships or as Gene, flew bombers. No frills. The most exciting thing was ice cream. Now, everyone is used to technical marvels and spectacles. Has anyone here owned a car from the 60s? Anyone grow up in a military family during the Cold War? You have to put things in context. I myself am nostalgic for MCM design, & the Space Race of the 60s. The President's bunker in T3 really got to me. I reel to reel and punch card computers. The 60s were relevent when I was a kid. Kids these days are born with iPhones. They have no context.

TOS was made by WW2 vets and was social commentary on the 60s, Civil Rights, and the Vietnam war. The kids these days dont have that struggle and are free to write what they want. BSG was a commentary on the Bush Forever Wars. I tried explaining this to the kids on Reddit and got banned for "trolling" Youre just going to have to accept that the world has moved on. The kids these days cant connect. The have no context.

Spock was emotional in The Cage and the Gold Key comics until he decided to remain on Enterprise as an "emotional Vulcan" by Vulcan standards. Humans couldnt tell the difference. The one comic I clearly was the inspiration of the Demon planet on Voyager where we think we're watching the prime crew but it turns out we're watching doubles. A strange planet clones Spock and towards the end, Spock talks to his clone and accepts serving on a Human ship is best for him.

A very long time ago when Gold Key had the Star Trek comics, Spock explored his humanity in several books. Eventually Spock decided that he was "too human" to be around Vulcans and "too Vulcan" to be around most Humans and that serving in space was the best choice. Ethan Peck really needs to read "I am Spock" by Nimoy to really get the character. Hopefully he setttles down in Season 3.

SCIFI in the 60s was about showing what would happen if Humans stopped being EEEEVIL. Half the episodes are proVietnam war, Half are against. Why are Nutsies bad? Why are Hippies bad? Why is racism bad? Why is blindly following religion bad? Landru and Baal, all of it was social commentary of Earth in the 1960s. Look no deeper than that. Both Miri and Space Seed are against genetic engineering. The Omega Glory was anti Cold War, and anti genetic engineering

Azimov was a hard science guy and had to make his version of FTL make sense to himself. His FTL involves the ship "popping" out of the universe, going into the "space between spaces" that we saw at the end of Lower Decks. The point being that outside of Space/Time, you can go anywhere and anywhen, and outside of the Universe which is now called "Einsteinian Space" Physics has different rules. To quote Heckle and Jeckle, "You can do anything in a cartoon"

Because Romulans are Vulcans or Vulcanians according to Harry Mudd, Humans have seen them, but dont know it. Enterprise Incident: Checkov cant find Spock on the Romulan ship because theyre too similar. Its easier to retcon this than the current Gorn-as-Alien Xenomorphs. Nothing about SNW's Gorn makes any sense

Tropers already called Lala's death from the beginning, and Gibbs just met Diane, wife number 2, only she doesnt have red hair. Fornell showed up once. Plus Tim dreamed he built a boat in Gibbs DC basement.

I know this is an old article, but I expect them to rewrite "history" because all the old guys are either in late middle age or dead. Im 52, and as much as I hate K/S, (theyre a Borg collective of 2), I wont be surprised when new Kirk and New Spock hook up in season 3, maybe with Laan in a wild "free love" 3 way. Gene wouldnt like it (because he was Kirk) but ultimately he'd say go for it because he believed in the Free Love Future of the hippie era. Gene flew bomber missions in WW2, and shagged a different nurse every night.

Why not Brosnan and Dalton? I liked Dalton in Hott Fuzz (yes thats what they wanted to call it) Why cant Dalton be an evil Bond, and Brosnan be the good one? Bond on Bond action!
