See AllI Hate Hereditary, But A24's New Horror Movie Fixes All My Problems With Ari Aster's Movie
Hereditary is a film for deep thinkers. It’s not intended to have a happy ending! This review is not even remotely close to the happenings surrounding the film. Yes, there are literally hundreds of miniature details surrounding the plot, and that’s the intent. Annie’s character makes miniature replicas of businesses and what appears to be a preschool that she is trying to finish in time because of time constraints. Because of the series of happenings, that’s the dichotomy… she misses the details that are written on walls and surrounding her (the doormat’s her mother knitted). It’s shedding light on a few problems that all are directly tied to Annie. She states at the counseling session that her brother committed suicide. She also was conflicted by her mother because she didn’t love her in a healthy way. This may be because her mother was a conniving satanist who had the whole dynamic of Annie’s life already planned out in advance, tragedies and all. The signs carved on the utility pole near the accident where Peter swerves to hit the deer, and ironically his sister is decapitated. All the horrible things that happen to the family was out of their control the entire time. Hence the title, Hereditary is a literal work of genius that points out that in certain cases, you can’t outrun your fate by your family lineage. Possibly, the only way that the outcome could’ve been different was if the family would’ve turned to religion and not unknowingly ed satan by allowing the menacing matriarch to sink her fingers into Annie’s children and cause a rift between her marriage. However, by the complex dark powers at play, it was far too late for that to be an option. This movie is trying to make the viewer understand how diabolical and evil the mother was and Annie couldn’t have escaped the cult that had many years to conjure up their fate.
