It is common for a show to barely mention a departing character. I was glad they explained it. Some shows just ignore the departure and never explain it.

I like that the criminals from the season 6 finale are still out there. This can be a thread that persists through the season. No need to get them all in the first episode. Let it build. Catch them one at a time.
