The thing that's increasingly obvious about "DND 2024" is they're not making any design choices based on some actual need to update the rules or actual ideas they have, they're making choices based on what can be coded into a proprietary VTT they can force everyone to use the easiest.

I run adventure paths because I don't have the time or creative genius to think up incredibly compelling stories for the 3 groups a week I run games for. And yet all 3 groups beg me for the next one each time. You can very much pick APs that excite you as a DM, I don't see why that's not considered an option. And running an AP isn't just refereeing, I've ran the same AP twice for 2 different groups and it was completely different besides the major story beats.
