At a guess, they want to bring them in to the current chronology, but they would need to come up with a plausible reason that they haven't been around.
So they do their retro origin, and then put them on ice or in the quantum realm somewhere so they come out of it in time to help the updated Avengers or whoever in the present. Gives them a new set of people to do Caps 'man out of time' type stories, and a better window on weird/mad science shenanigans than we get with Hank Pym at the moment because Michael Douglas is aging out and audiences just don't seem to connect with Paul Rudd's character.
