You could have taken this time to talk about the fact that Doc and Einstein have clearly been missing for a week at the beginning of the movie. Did Marty even exist when Doc started his experiment? Is this the third or fourth go round trying to tackle time aberrations before he finally gives up and leans into making a better tomorrow? Did Doc go back and set up a Libyan terror cell in the middle of nowhere so they'd be there when he needed to buy plutonium? Do George and Lorraine recognize their son when he comes back as being the mysterious guy who showed up for a week or two and then vanished without a trace? My point is if you're going to "reveal" a "hidden subplot" pick something that isn't clearly addressed in the movie.
