Guess what? We all noticed this when it came out 25-years ago. We just understood that it was part of the humor for the show. But, I get it. This article is written for people being introduced to Ranma and probably thought the same thing at one point. I for one ire that they are keeping true to the original story the way it was written. What fun would it be if Akane knew? It would ruin and change the entire thread of that storyline.
