I have to disagree with in some ways. You're comparing Man Of Steel's Pa Kent with Gunn's when Clark is at a different stage of his life. We don't know how Gunn's Pa Kent treated Clark's abilities when he was a kid. Not to mention he didn't say "maybe" with conviction, but rather with uncertainty and fear. We also need to take Pa Kent as a whole. Sure, he was super protective of Clark (his worries were confirmed in BvS), but he saw what Clark could be in the future, he just let Clark figure it out on his own. There's a big emphasis on choice in Man Of Steel from both Jor-El and Pa Kent. But Pa always knew what Clark could be (Superman)
