Yes it's brilliant. David is superintelligent, supposedly constrained to serve his master, resents it, and is able to creatively interpret commands to suit his own purposes, and his plans happen to include zero comion for individuals or humanity.

There is a short video in the extra features in the Bluray of Covenant, in which David describes what he did after Prometheus and before Covenant.

Nevertheless it would be nice if I didn't have to seek out the cut parts of script and hidden extra videos to find out some of the answers that I expected to learn in the sequel to Prometheus!

Prometheus was marvelous. Some annoyingly unscientistlike behaviour, as in Covenant, to speed things along I guess. A lot of unanswered questions at the end of Prometheus, clues and answers were deliberately cut from the scene of David and the Engineer, probably as a commercial decision to prevent offending the beliefs of a lot of the USA audience.
