UPDATE: 07/27/22: PlayStation Blog has now confirmed the Essential games for August will include Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1+2, Yakuza: Like A Dragon, and Little Nightmares. Original story and leak as follows:
The PlayStation Plus Essential is the new PS+, as in, it has the same benefits as the old PS+, while PlayStation Plus Extra and PlayStation Plus are the ones with an expanded library.
Sony's new tiered system for PlayStation Plus has gone off to a great start, at least in of the Essential and Extra tiers. The most recent Essential games included Crash Bandicoot 4 and The Dark Pictures: Man of Medan, while the most recent Extra games included Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade, a day one launch for Stray, and several Assassin's Creed games. The new PlayStation Plus has been described as Sony's equivalent to Xbox Game and the service has been hitting it out of the park, especially during a lull in Microsoft's offerings.
The same website that correctly leaked the July 2022 PlayStation Plus games has revealed what's in store for August 2022. According to Nibel on Twitter, French gaming website Dealabs has revealed that the August 2022 PlayStation Plus Essential games are Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1+2 on PS5/PS5, Yakuza: Like A Dragon on PS4/PS5, and Little Nightmares on PS4. It bears mentioning that this is a leak and should be taken with a grain of salt until Sony makes an official announcement.
August Could Be One Of PS Plus' Best Ever Months
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1+2 is a highly-regarded remake compilation of the first two Tony Hawk's Pro Skater games, with new graphics, online multiplayer, and some of the mechanics and tricks from the later games in the series. is the first JRPG in the Yakuza series, following a new lead character in a new city, as conflict brews in the Japanese criminal underworld. Little Nightmares is a puzzle-platform horror game about a young girl escaping from a terrifying underwater vessel. It bears mentioning that Little Nightmares is already a PlayStation Plus Extra game, so subscribers to PlayStation Plus Extra or PlayStation Plus can or stream it right now.
If the leak is legitimate, then this is an amazing month for PlayStation Plus, with a great selection of games across multiple genres, ranging from sports simulation, to lengthy turn-based JRPGs, and a short, cinematic experience. The fact that a sequel to Yakuza: Like A Dragon is in the works also adds credence to it coming to PlayStation Plus Essential. Sony will likely confirm (or deny) the legitimacy of this leak soon, as it's almost time for the next batch of PlayStation Plus Essential games to be announced.
