The racing video game genre is seeing some new games for every platform this year, and many more have been announced to be released in 2024 without specific dates just yet. Racing games can take on many forms, from traditional Formula One racecars speeding around a track to cartoonish kart racers pushing each other out of the way. Racing Games That Released Between January 1 - March 31

The first part of the year was a little slow for the racing video game genre, with nothing launching in January and only one in February. The big names to check out include Le Mans Ultimate and Expeditions: A MudRunner Game. Le Mans Ultimate is the official game for the FIA World Endurance Championship and 24 Hours of Le Mans and puts racers in the driver's seat for endurance racing. It was released on PC in early access on February 20. The developers are considering porting it to home consoles at a later date, but so far, no official announcement has been made on that front.

As the official game for the FIA World Endurance Championship and 24 Hours of Le Mans, Le Mans Ultimate includes many of the most famous circuits, including Monza, Spa-Francorchamps, Sebring, and, of course, Circuit de la Sarthe in Le Mans. Expeditions: A MudRunner Game is more of an off-road adventure than a racer, coming from the creators of MudRunner and SnowRunner. Rather than speeding to first place, players will lead research missions through off-road landscapes and equip vehicles with the best gadgets, such as drones and scanners.

Other racing games released in Q1 include New Star GP, an retro-styled arcade racer; Taxi Life, a realistic taxi sim set on the streets of Barcelona; and Top Racer Collection, which contains modern ports of the 16-bit '90s racing games Top Racer, Top Racer 2, and Top Racer 3000. Although mostly devoid of big-name franchises, these releases speak to the diversity of racing and driving games scheduled for release in 2024.

Racing Games That Released Between April 1 - June 30

Leaning into spring and warmer weather, several exciting racing games are hitting the finish lines. EA Sport's annual F1 racing game, F1 24, debuted on May 31 for those who want to experience the thrills of Formula One. The interesting thing about the 2024 season is that all twenty of the drivers who ended the season in 2023 have re-signed with the same teams. Following the yearly tradition, players saw F1 24 released for PlayStation, Xbox, and PC this summer. It didn't make any great departures from its predecessor, but F1 24 still received a positive review from Screen Rant.

Otherwise, players can enjoy Turbo Golf Racing, a Rocket League-inspired blend of mini golf and go karts; Trail Out, a demolition derby game; MotoGP 24, the official video game of the professional motorcycle racing federation of the same name; Heading Out, a plot-heavy racing game inspired by classic road trip movies; or Horizon Chase 2, the sequel to the modern revival of arcade-style racing. Horizon Chase 2 was released for Switch last year, but was ported to PC, PlayStation, and Xbox consoles this spring.

Racing Games Releasing Between July 1 - September 30

Many major racing games have been released in the summer of 2024. Asphalt Legends Unite is a new expansion for Asphalt 9: Legends that adds a co-op mode to the game, as well as many new improvements. Additionally, Rennsport was first released as an open beta during the third quarter of 2024. The game features state-of-the-art physics and stunning graphics, and even has professional drivers and racing strategists on the development team to help make it as realistic as possible.

Rennsport will be on PC only for its early access period, but then plans to also launch on consoles when the game is ready for its full release. On the other hand, the development studio behind F1 Manager, Frontier Development, had a heavy round of job cuts prior to its release date, which has led to some concerns over whether F1 Manager 2024 would even be made. The company has confirmed, however, that the game is in development.

Like F1 Manager 2023, the game was released on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC in the summer. F1 Manager 2024 also includes a new game mode, Create-a-Team, which allows players to build their very own F1 franchises from scratch instead of selecting from a roster of pre-built teams. Given the generally uneventful team turnover this year, however, there's not a whole lot of difference between last year's F1 Manager and this year's, but Frontier Developments has confirmed it'll stick to its annual release schedule for at least one more year.

Monster Jam Showdown, the tenth game in the Monster Jam series, is another major racing game release this summer. As its name implies, Monster Jam Showdown is focused on the monster truck arena, with thrilling tricks and off-road tracks. Players can unlock hundreds of customization options, including current Monster Jam competitors, historic trucks, and more. It'll be available on PC, PlayStation, Xbox Series X/S, and Switch on August 29, with three days of early access available with some pre-orders.

Simcade game Hot Lap Racing came out on July 16, while offroad racer ExoCross was announced for a July 22 release date. While originally expected to be released in the fall of 2023, the game's developers decided to push that date back a bit. The game is the next evolution of DRAG: Outer Zones and is an off-road racing experience in futuristic vehicles. CarX Street is releasing on the same day as Monster Jam Showdown: August 29. It features highly customizable cars in realistic simulations, and an open-world sandbox for drivers to play in. Later, on September 3, space-age trucking sim Star Trucker will the roster as a day-one Game release.

Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown is one of the most heavily anticipated racing games of 2024. The series, Test Drive, is the longest-running, with the first game launching in 1987 and its 2006 Test Drive Unlimited being the first online MMO open-world racing game. Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown will be set on Hong Kong Island in a 1:1 representation. Embracing the trend of hashtags, #DRIVE Rally is an rally racing game set in the 1990s where players can get as dirty and muddy as they want while competing for first place.

Racing Games Releasing Between October 1 - December 31

Only one major racing game is currently announced to be released in the final quarter of 2024, but it is one of the most highly anticipated racing games of the year. As a sequel to one of the biggest racing simulators, Assetto Corsa Ev has big shoes to fill. The realistic racing sim uses laser-scanning technology to make the most accurate track representation, as well as advanced driving physics incorporated into its game mechanics.

Racing Games Expected To Launch In 2024 (Plus Delayed Games)

Several beautiful examples of simulated racing and even just driving through stunning landscapes are expected to be released in 2024 but have not yet nailed down exact dates. Besides being a clever play on words, Wreckreation is an open-world arcade racing game experience that will offer plenty of stunts, high-speed adrenaline, and many crashes. Players will be provided with 400 square kilometers of sandbox area where they can build their own MixWorld of loops, jumps, and more to race and wreck vehicles either alone or with friends. Originally scheduled for release in Q4 2024, Wreckreation has been delayed indefinitely.

Despite its name and being published by the same company, Wreckreation is not a sequel to Wreckfest.

Also, the free-to-play chaotic battle royale kart race, Stampede: Racing Royale, was originally expected to launch sometime this spring, but has since been delayed indefinitely. Sporting weird and crazy looks, 60 racers will compete for the lead in this silly game, which will feature many limited-time events with new customizations. Unfortunately, it's uncertain whether Stampede will actually be out by the end of this year, but there's still hope.

Meanwhile, the picturesque towns of Japan along Haikama Lake set the stage for the immersive Japanese Drift Master, which combines elements of visual novel storytelling with a traditional feel of a racing game.
