Ubisoft has announced that Rainbow Six Extraction will not lessen the experience of Rainbow Six Siege at all, and that they will remain different titles with their own schedules for post-launch .

Rainbow Six Extraction was shrouded in mystery after its cryptic reveal at E3 2019 as Rainbow Six Quarantine. This title was officially changed last month in order to distance the title from the COVID-19 pandemic, which saw millions of people quarantined in their homes as part of lockdown precautions worldwide. Even after the name change, though, not many details were known about the game until its showcase during Ubisoft Forward at E3 this year. This showcase revealed a lot of details about Rainbow Six Extraction, including story details, a look at the alien foes players will be battling with, and an initial release date of September 21.

Unfortunately, Ubisoft has announced today that the game will no longer be meeting that deadline. The post claims that the team wants to "deliver a full-fledged AAA experience that changes the way you play and think about cooperative games," and that "we are embracing the opportunity to take additional time to bring this vision to life in the way it deserves in January 2022." The update is very optimistically worded, assuring potential fans that the delay will only be a net positive for the experience. This is in stark contrast to the typically apologetic tone one tends to expect from a delay announcement.

Rainbow Six Extraction Gameplay Reveal

The video game industry has encountered a lot of delays in recent months, as developers struggle to adapt to the changing situations brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic. These delays are often met with disappointment from fans, but more often than not, they tend to be for the best. Most of the gaming community recall the disastrous launch of PlayStation CEO echoed an iconic Shigeru Miyamoto quote when he said that it's better to give a game the time it needs than to rush an unfinished product.

Ubisoft seems to agree with this sentiment. Its update message is insistent on the point that this delay is entirely for the benefit of its ambitious vision for a unique and imaginative co-op shooter. Hopefully, when January rolls around, players will see that the extra time has made Rainbow Six Siege the high-quality game Ubisoft is promising it to be.
