The seeing it as an improvement over the first anime. However, while this new series is far closer to the source material, this sadly means it won't adapt one of the original anime's best stories.
Season 3 of the original Ranma 1/2 anime features an episode titled "Am I...Pretty? Ranma's Declaration of Womanhood," which is a completely original storyline created for the series. It follows Ranma losing his memory after hitting his head incredibly hard during training. When he comes to, he sees himself entirely as a woman, completely forgetting about his life as a man. The episode spends most of its time showing the Tendos and Ranma's father trying to help Ranma regain his memories, but for the most part, Ranma is content in his new life.
Ranma sticks to masculine pronouns throughout the series no matter what form he takes, so he/him/his will be used to address him.
"Ranma's Declaration of Womanhood" Serves as an Excellent Development for Ranma's Feminine Side
"Am I...Pretty?" is Filler Done Right
One of the biggest criticisms of the original Ranma 1/2 anime is how much filler was used to stretch out the storyline so it wouldn't catch up with the manga. This ultimately led to some arcs that felt pointless in the grand scheme of things. However, "Ranma's Declaration of Womanhood" feels different. There's actual development in this episode that explores the feminine side of the series' protagonist as he grows to feel emboldened by being a woman. It's incredibly sweet and shows that this "curse" may not be so bad for Ranma's subconscious self.
What the episode also does well is giving the audience a chance to fully embrace Ranma as a gender non-conforming character. While he certainly prefers being a boy at the start of the series, he eventually alternates between the two forms in the manga, growing more comfortable in being either form. This episode gives audiences a nice little bridge between these two versions of the character, allowing Ranma to see the benefits of womanhood. Even though this is all due to amnesia, it's entirely possible that everything he undergoes stays in his subconscious, so he grows to be more comfortable with this form as a result.
Ranma 1/2's Best Filler Episode Inspired a Whole Generation of Trans People
"Am I...Pretty?" Cracked Many Eggs for the Trans Community
On top of being a generally good episode, "Ranma's Declaration of Womanhood" also played a major social role for a new generation of Trans individuals. Given how the gender-bending plot of Ranma 1/2 has made the original anime iconic for the Trans community, this episode in particular helped create that "aha" moment, known as an egg-crack. The way it explores the feeling of gender dysphoria vs. euphoria when it shows the horrifying reaction Ranma gives when he sees his male form after losing his memory, as well as the joy he experiences while going shopping with Akane, is a brilliant visualization.
However, the most defining moment of the episode is a brief interaction between Akane and Ranma when she questions what it's like to not being a boy. Ranma simply answers with a response that has resonated with many Trans fans in the Ranma 1/2 community:
"I don't know quite how to describe it. It's as if my experiences until now aren't mine. It seems so unreal. As if I have another person's memories. And this morning, the real me suddenly awakened. I finally realized that I was a woman."
This one moment from the anime inspired a whole generation of Trans people because of how much it spoke to the feeling they had when questioning their identity. Whether it was the original intent of the episode or not, it put those emotions into perspective, allowing people to suddenly have a way to explain their own feelings and come to their own realizations.
Ranma 1/2's Remake Should Seriously Consider Adapting "Am I...Pretty?"
It's Not Manga Accurate, but It's an Amazing Episode that Defined the Original Series
The sad thing about the Ranma 1/2 remake is that it's mostly looking to stay as close to the manga as possible. This means that "Am I...Pretty?" has very little chance of being adapted because it's an original work. However, it would seriously be to the series' benefit to make an exception for this episode. "Ranma's Declaration of Womanhood" added a ton of development to Ranma's feminine side. It would be remarkable to see such a great episode get adapted to the remake, showing an appreciative nod to the series that came before it while also continuing the inspiration it gave to a whole new line of anime fans.
Until that happens though, it's highly unlikely that "Ranma's Declaration of Womanhood" will exist outside the first anime. Still, for a show that came out in the late 80s and early 90s, it's remarkable to see this episode be made at all. It's incredibly progressive for its time while also adding to the overall character development, despite being filler. This Ranma 1/2 storyline is undeniably one of the best from the classic series, and it's a total shame that the remake likely won't touch it just because it's not from the manga.

In this comedic series, martial artist Ranma Saotome navigates life with a unique predicament: he transforms into a girl when splashed with cold water. His engagement to Akane Tendo adds further complexity, as they encounter numerous challenges within familial and martial arts dynamics.
