Reservation Dogs is an outstanding combination of comedy, crime, heartfelt moments, and surreal experiences driven by an impressive cast of characters. A show that tells Indigenous stories made entirely by Indigenous creators, including filmmaker and actor Taika Waititi, Reservation Dogs provides an authentic look into the lives of Natives who live in rural America today.

Throughout the show, audiences take an intimate look at a variety of different townsfolk. The many characters of Reservation Dogs are so distinctly defined and full of powerful personalities that a majority of them can be attributed to each of the 12 individual zodiac signs.

Aries - Jackie

Jackie scowling and looking annoying while talking to other characters in Reservation Dogs.

Jackie is the leader of the Rez Dogs' rival gang, the NDN Mafia. Like a typical Aries, she is hot-headed and confrontational. Although Jackie is mostly portrayed as a villain in Reservation Dogs, her Aries-like assertiveness is what makes her such a great leader.

Aries are regarded as some of the most fearless signs. This quality is personified in Jackie, who is always ready for a fight. She evens drops everything at the last minute to make the potentially risky move to California with Elora.

Taurus - Willie Jack

Willie Jack holds her phone in front of her face while Bear stands behind her in Reservation Dogs.

As the toughest and most blunt of the Rez Dogs group, Willie Jack is the epitome of a Taurus. She is quite headstrong, so her words can also come off as aggressive at times. And like a bull, she is strong and resilient.

Underneath her strong surface personality, Willie Jack also has the emotional traits of a Taurus. Representing one of the most loyal signs of the zodiac, Willie Jack is incredibly devoted to her friends, but also like a Taurus, she isn't as open to change as the others. She is the first to skip out on the move to California because she is too comfortable with what she knows.

Gemini - Mekko And Mose

Mekko and Mose stand in a parking lot with their bikes in Reservation Dogs.

The sign of duality, Gemini, is best represented by Reservation Dogs characters Mekko and Mose. They don't just represent Gemini because they appear to be twins, however. Like Geminis, Mekko and Mose are excellent communicators.

As rappers, Mekko and Mose are quite talented with their words. Not only that, they are also some of the main messengers of information throughout the series as they deliver important news to the main characters about happenings around town. Plus, Mekko and Mose are quick to make an alibi for the Rez Dogs about the stolen chip truck when Big questions them, exhibiting the sharp-witted communication skill that air sign Geminis possess.

Cancer - Leon

Uncle Leon in the woods wearing a hat and face paint, looking askance at someone off-screen in Reservation Dogs.

Leon, Willie Jack's father, is best represented by the sign of Cancer. Like a crab, Leon has a hard emotional exterior at first. It takes him quite a while to address his feelings about the death of his nephew, Daniel.

Eventually, of course, Leon ends up cracking the shell open and shares his emotions of grief with Wille Jack in a series of touching conversations. Plus, because of their emotional sensitivity, Cancers often make good parents, and Willie Jack lovingly praises Leon for his parenting throughout the series.

Leo - Big

Big stands with his hands on his hips and looking skeptically at something off-screen in Reservation Dogs.

Leos are often known to have a dedication to their ions as well as a need for control. As the reservation's tribal cop (rather than an actual police officer), Big has a clear drive for power among his community and strives to be a leader.

His innocent self-absorption is the comedic crux of Big's personality, and like many Leos, Big makes himself the center of any situation he finds himself in, such as in the church basement during the tornado. Big's unwarrantedly prideful investigation of crimes throughout the series makes Reservation Dogs nothing like the usual procedural crime shows.

Virgo - Spirit

Spirit aka William Knifehorn wears traditional native American clothing and feathers in Reservation Dogs.

Bear's continuous vision of a Native warrior whom he refers to as Spirit is one of the best comedic relief characters on the show. On top of his erratic sense of humor, Spirit's main purpose is to appear when Bear is in need of guidance. As someone who gives amazing advice, Spirit is a great representative of Virgos.

Due to their selfless and helpful nature, Virgos tend to be quite humble. Although he maintains a powerful demeanor and is incredibly important in of Bear's personal development, Spirit also acknowledges that he never did anything necessarily noble during his time in battle.

Libra - Cheese

Cheese smiles and looks at something off-screen in Reservation Dogs.

As the youngest member of the Rez Dog gang, Cheese is also one of the nicest and most likable characters in the entire show. He gets along with everyone, including Big, so he would best be described as a Libra as they have the most agreeable personalities of the zodiac.

As air signs, Libras are easy-going people-pleasers by nature due to their ability to go wherever the wind takes them. This is especially evident for Cheese when he takes on the role of grandson for a random grandmother he meets at the health clinic so that she doesn't feel alone.

Scorpio - Rita

Rita scowls with the other Ritas on either side of her in Reservation Dogs.

Perhaps the fiercest of the water signs, Scorpios are full of emotion but in an incredibly resilient way. Rita, Bear's mom, fits this description perfectly. After going through emotional turmoil with her ex, Bear's rapper father, she still maintains a tough personality.

Like most Scorpios, Rita always keeps it real. She is brutally honest with Bear about his father's lack of love for the family but still offers him the space to be emotionally vulnerable to process the situation during a tender conversation.

Sagittarius - Elora Danan

Elora Danan in Reservation Dogs

After losing her mother at such a young age, Elora Danan is starkly independent. She isn't afraid to take big risks, as shown in her devotion to moving to California. Her individualistic approach to life fits that of a Sagittarius, the most adventurous of the zodiac. This independence is also what makes her so powerful as the true leader of the Rez Dogs.

As a free-spirited Sagittarius, Elora doesn't like being controlled. She frequently condemns her hometown for "killing people" because of its harsh social environment. After losing Daniel, she deems the town as dangerous, and her fearless instincts kick in as she works toward getting out as soon as possible.

Capricorn - Bear

Bear looks perplexed in Reservation Dogs.

Bear, the self-appointed leader of the Rez Dogs, always tries to appear tough. He takes himself more seriously than necessary sometimes, resulting in misguided decisions like buying his father an expensive gift or relentlessly trying to fight the NDN mafia. Bear's obsession with accomplishing these goals he sets for himself resembles the determined nature of a Capricorn.

While his plans tend to backfire, Bear also seems to have quite practical instincts like a careful Capricorn, such as when he insisted on buckling up for safety while stealing the chip truck or when he thought through the best way to transport the deer in Elora's car.  Overall, it is safe to say that Bear is one of the most flawed but loved characters on the show.

Aquarius - Uncle Brownie

Uncle Brownie stands outside shrugging with his hands in the air in Reservation Dogs.

Aquarians have a natural tendency to reject societal norms, and that is perhaps the perfect way to describe Elora's uncle, Brownie, who has one of the most unique personalities in the entire show. His eccentricities make for some hilarious and unconventional situations, like his multiple bar fights or his spit fight with Willie Jack.

It is also common for those with the sign of Aquarius to fixate on their interests. They can get quite defensive about what they like, which is also true for Uncle Brownie as he is adamant about his lifestyle, especially when it comes to his weed.

Pisces - Coach Bobson

Coach Bobson looks pensively into the middle distance while talk to Elora in Reservation Dogs.

One of the most emotionally sensitive zodiac signs is Pisces, whose consideration for those around them makes for some of the most dedicated parents. This is true for Coach Bobson, Elora's former basketball coach who, although a bit extreme, shoots a man just for the safety of his own daughter.

More notably, however, Coach Bobson showcases his Pisces-like sympathetic nature toward Elora throughout their conversations together during her driver's test. Pisces are also known for being incredibly wise, which could definitely be said of Coach Bobson as he provides Elora with long-awaited insight about her mother that no one else would.
